The flag of the Republic of Meytallia, commonly called the national flag, consists of a vertical, irregular tricolor of blue, white and red, charged with the national emblem in the left 2/3rds of the hoist side. The design was originally designed by current Prime Minister Sanders in February of 2016 and adopted on the 19th of September, but went through minor changes two years later. Prior to this design, the Republic of Westnestria used a radically different design, charged with the former emblem in the canton.

History

Republic of Westnestria

The Republic of Westnestria was the first iteration before the Republic of Meytallia to have it's own flag. The design was created in 2013 with the intention to resemble the other nations flags of the world. The original design consisted of the colors of Westnestria, that being green, white and red, with a unique alternating white and red design at the bottom of the flag, with the then coat of arms of Westnestria on the hoist side. The flag was never actually flown and was abandoned as the Republic of Westnestria dissolved in 2016.

Republic of Meytallia

After the dissolution of Westnestria, a new flag had to be designed for the new government. The first iteration of the flag consisted of seven alternating horizontal lines of blue and white with the national emblem in the canton. That design only lasted two years because it was too much alike to the Greek national flag, and could lead to confusion. The second version of the flag took a radically different approach, by making the lines vertical and making them irregular. The national emblem was made larger and the color red was added to the color scheme. That design only lasted two years as well because, it late 2018 it was discovered that the seven-pointed stars on the flag were incorrect to the the 10-pointed that are on the coat of arms, which the flag design was based off of in the first place. So, to fix the problem, the flag was redesigned a final time, this time to the correct standards of the coat of arms, and was codified by the National Flag Act in 2018 to lock in the current design.

Design

The flag of the Republic of Meytallia is defined by the National Flag Act as follows:

"The Meytallia flag has a ratio of 6:11. The colors of red, white, blue and yellow represents as follows: red represents bravery and honesty, white represents purity and freedom, blue represents grace and mystery, and yellow represents hope and ingenuity. The main element of the flag is the National emblem of Meytallia, not the coat of arms. The elements on the emblem represent as follows: The emblem contains a wolf carrying a cross atop a half sun in the center. The half sun represents the birth of a new nation while the wolf represents wisdom and strength. The cross is a reference to the strong Christian roots that govern the nation. Above the wolf, the stars make a constellation, consisting of 13 gold stars, 13 stars referring to the strong American culture, attitude and way of living, of which 11 are 10-pointed stars, 10 points referring to the ten commandments, and 2 are 5-pointed stars, one representing the North Star as guidance, and the other helping to form the Southern Cross, another reference to the strong roots in Christianity.
