Hiking Trail is a 2020 New Eiffelic indie thriller short film, starring, written, directed and produced by Zabëlle Skye, making it his seventh independent film.[2][a]

The story is about a man who gets fed up with the noisy city, and decides to go on a hiking trail; however, he soon realises he has not brought enough water with him for the trail. The film was Skye's first to be shot and released entirely in 4K resolution, which was considered revolutionary for New Eiffelic cinema,[3] although Pick which was released a month later was released in 4K resolution at 60 frames-per-second, as opposed to Hiking Trail's 30 fps. Since its release on 3 June 2020, the film has received mixed to average critical reception.

Premise

The story is about a man who gets fed up with the noisy city, and decides to go on a hiking trail; however, he soon realises he has not brought enough water with him for the trail.[4]

Production

During the summer, filmmaker Zabëlle Skye became increasingly inspired to work on a film relating to the heat that New Eiffel was experiencing. Skye's residence had also been undergoing renovations, making it inconvenient to film inside. Principal photography took place on 25 May 2020 – just three days after the release of his previous film Insaniam – primarily in New Leeds and Új Repülő. Two further scenes were shot in slow-motion in Plitvice on 29 May. Post-production finished on 3 June, the same day as the film's release. The film was Skye's first to be shot and released entirely in 4K resolution.[3][5] Underneath (2019), another independent film by Skye, was also a survival thriller film, though Underneath did not inspire Hiking Trail.

Release and copyright status

The film had a quiet release on 3 June 2020. It was later uploaded onto YouTube and added to StreamEiffel on 29 July.[1] The film received generally mixed to average critical reception, though critics noted its exceptional cinematography.

In contrast with all of Skye's other films, Hiking Trail is fully copyrighted, being his only independent film to be so. The reasoning for this is not known.
