Responsibilities

  2. State Pensions: Administering the state pension scheme, which provides regular payments to individuals who have reached retirement age. This includes managing contributions, calculating entitlements, and distributing payments.
  3. Working Age Benefits: Administering benefits and financial support for individuals of working age who are unemployed, on low incomes, or unable to work due to disability or illness. This includes programs such as Universal Credit, Jobseeker's Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, and Personal Independence Payment.
  4. Disability Support: Providing support and financial assistance to people with disabilities or long-term health conditions. This includes assessing individuals' needs and eligibility for disability benefits, as well as offering additional support services to help them participate in society and employment.
  5. Employment Services: Offering employment support services and programs aimed at helping people find and sustain employment. This includes job search assistance, skills training, work experience opportunities, and support for disabled individuals and those with health conditions.
  6. National Insurance: Administering the National Insurance system, which funds state pensions, certain benefits, and healthcare services through contributions from individuals and employers. The DWP manages contributions, entitlements, and records related to National Insurance.
  7. Pension Regulation: Regulating private pension schemes and occupational pensions to ensure they meet certain standards and provide adequate retirement income for scheme members.
  8. Child Maintenance: Managing the Child Maintenance Service, which helps separated parents arrange child maintenance payments to support their children's upbringing.
