Shadow Ferrell (c. 2010 – 15 November 2022[1]) was a black-colored Labrador retriever and a family dog of the first family of Ridgeland, who was the longest-living pet of Forest C. F. before his death two days after the establishment of the Sovereign State of Ridgeland. A Ridgelantic national holiday was established in memorial of his death[1].
Biography
Shadow was born presumably around 2010, being adopted by the Ferrells around the time of Forest C. F.'s birth after he had arrived at the front door of their residence. Shadow's life before his adoption is entirely unknown, however, it is presumed that he had jumped from his previous owner's automobile before arriving at the Ferrell residence. Shadow's name was supposedly inspired by his black fur. Shadow eventually received training as an emotional support animal sometime in the early 2010s, however had rarely practiced this role, especially in old age.
Shadow was diagnosed with multiple medical conditions and ailments in the early 2020s, such as mouth tumors and cataracts, and eventually lost the ability to walk in late 2022. On 15 November 2022, he was euthanized due to his refusal to eat and complete loss of the ability to move, with his death being marked as a Ridgelantic national holiday in memoriam.
