Zaaga Province

Zaaga Province is a province of the Second Kingdom of Paxaris. It was formed on the 8 September after Paxaris redefined it's borders to fit the entire great lakes. It controls land in the Ishpay and Dabaz regions. It draws the border up to 85°W and following the existing border with the United Cities and Canada. In the Dabaz region, it follows the river Maumee until it reaches the 41st parallel north, from where it follows the 87th meridian west until it reaches Lake Michigan.

Etymology

Zaaga comes from the Ojibwe word for a lake, zaaga'igan.

History

ZP was initially divided up between the United States and Roupica (later Golania and Paxaris). Roupica divided their land up into the existing counties of Michigan, Golania never had functioning divisions, and Paxaris (when it did not control West Zaaga) used Eamia as the name for the land in the Dabaz.

Unification

On 8 September, Zaaga was silently formed as the first post-caanga province, with the rest of the duchies initially remaining unchanged.

Government

The Zaagar government plans to hold elections for the Igetis of the province every 6 months. The first Igetis is Elizabeth Mintz, however as she is not mature enough to control and hold office de facto, Xander Mintz is the Palai Igetis, a regent of an elected official.

Fort Michilimackinac

Fort Michilimackinac was a fort and former trading post in the northern Dabaz region built in 1715.

Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island is an autonomous borough of Zaaga. It is most known for having laws banning cars, originating when it was part of the US. These laws carry into when it was annexed by Paxaris in 2022, and Paxaris has not announced any intention to revoke the law.

Mackinac Bridge

Mackinac Bridge is a suspension bridge connecting the Ishpay and Dabaz regions. It is the longest suspension bridge between anchorages in the Western Hemisphere.
