A failed coup d'état was attempted in Hugia on 9 February 2024. It lasted from 3:29 PM to 6:10 PM PST. The coup lasted for almost 3 hours leading to no injuries or deaths. The Confederate Counties of Hugia surrendered and ultimately dissolved.

Background

Around late November 2023 a secret tape was recorded by a former Royal Hugian Soldier about a new government in Hugia. When the tape was discovered, the Hugian government shrugged it off and thought it was a prank. The leader, known as Gary Hansen, managed to secretly recruit over half of the Royal Hugian Armed Forces into the Confederate Hugian Armed Forces. A few were abducted and forced to join with them.

The coup

Gary Hansen ordered all of the Confederate armies to start occupying land first in Concluver county, the least visited county in Hugia. The county is mainly forested with no hospitable population. The coup started at 3:29 PM. It was 11 minutes before the prime minister of Hugia got out of school and be driven back to Hugia. The Confederate Hugian Army first occupied most of Concluver for about 20 minutes before advancing into Pretia county. For 30 minutes, Hansen was strategizing about taking over Pretia and Hornkrow counties due to their geography. At 4:00 Hansen and his army took over the western portion of Hornkrow and slowly occupied Pretia. The interior of Pretia was a struggle due to how rugged it was. The northern and southern parts of Pretia were easier to occupy which is what the army did through most of the attempted coup. At 4:20 PM is when they occupy all of southern Hornkrow and most of northern Pretia, slowly taking the interior lands of it.

The Confederate Hugian Army took out most of Hornkrow and northern Pretia counties around 4:30 PM. About another 10 minutes at 4:40 PM, is when they fully occupy Hornkrow and advance into Backystan county. The whole population was in Tractohall (capital of Hugia), with no one going outside most of the time. When someone went outside of the capital, the whole army hid somewhere behind a tree, or bush. So far no shots have been fired. At around 4:50 PM is when the army took a huge risk and surrounded west of Tractohall, which Backystan County is a plain, open grassland. At 5:00 is when the army fully occupies Pretia and holds a bit of Easthro county.

Hansen didn't talk about timing, in which because the whole army are just plastic, small toy soldiers took a while to make a move. The whole Confederate Hugian Army was planning about storming the capital, taking about 20 minutes to discuss. Prior to the whole coup, there wasn't a major plan. Around 5:40 PM was when every Hugian notices that there are toy soldiers surrounding them, is when they try to capture every one of the soldiers. The Royal Hugian Army and government quickly liberated all of Backystan and Easthro counties and took bits of Pretia and Hornkrow. Since lots of soldiers were running to Concluver, a huge land portion was liberated at 5:50.

The last 30 minutes of the coup attempt in Hugia is mainly the Royal Hugian Army and government looking for toy soldiers and liberating their lands. The Confederate Hugian Army's weapons were very weak since they were made out of plastic. The kingdom was slowly taking back land until 6:10 PM is when the Confederates surrendered. The royal army and prime minister found Hansen attempting to jump into the river and he was late to do so. They take him back to Tractohall for a court scheduled on 10 February, a day after the coup attempt. Prime minister Vireyica ultimately demanded anything confederate related about Hugia to be dissolved and Hansen and the army agreed.

Aftermath

5 minutes after the war ended, Hugia posted on their X (formerly Twitter) informing that the coup had ended and failed. The Confederate Counties would immediately be dissolved and the former President of the Confederate Counties of Hugia to be turned over into the kingdom's hands. No soldier of the former Confederate Hugian Armed Forces was charged and have been forgiven. All have been recruited back into the Royal Hugian Army.

Gary Hansen went to court a day after the coup (10 February). The judge, Harold the hammer, gave him a death punishment. Due to Hansen interrupting the judge a lot about missing the idea of the Confederate counties being in power, the judge originally scheduled the execution to be later in the month of February, but rescheduled a day after the court. Hansen would eventually be executed, being the first in Hugia to be. Anything Confederate counties symbols, or literature related have been banned in the nation.
