The Pontunian honours system comprises the various titles, awards and decorations which can be bestowed by the Duke of Pontunia.

Civilians can be knighted into one of the five orders of chivalry, with military awards consisting of military medals for individuals and battle honours for military units.

Orders of chivalry

There are five Pontunian orders of chivalry.

The first, the Pontunian Saltire, was established on 15 January 2020 (mere days after the founding of the Duchy itself). A highest order, the Order of Andrew I, was established on 3 February 2021, and two others - the Order of Joseph Verbis Lafleur, the second highest in precedence; and the Order of the South, the lowest in precedence - were established on 27 February later that month. They were joined on 21 May 2020 by the Order of Orleans, which ranks just below the Pontunian Saltire

Order of Andrew I

The Order of Andrew I has two grades. The grades in the order are thus:

  • Knight/Dame, maximum of 5 members
  • Squire/Lady, maximum of 10 members

Order of Joseph Verbis Lafleur

The Order of Joseph Verbis Lafleur has three grades, the holders of all of which can be referred to as knights, with the requirement of being a baptized Catholic. The grades in the order are thus:

  • Knight/Dame Superior (KSP/DSP), maximum of 10 members
  • Knight/Dame of Honour (KHP/DHP), maximum of 25 members
  • Knight/Dame (KP/DP)


Pontunian Saltire

The Pontunian Saltire has five grades, the holders of all of which can be referred to as knights. The grades in the order are thus:

  • Knight/Dame 1st class (KUP/DUP), maximum of 25 members
  • Knight/Dame 2nd class (KDP/DDP)
  • Knight/Dame 3rd class (KTP/DTP)
  • Squire/Lady 1st class (SUP/LUP)
  • Squire/Lady 2nd class (SDP/DDP)

Order of Orleans

The Order of Orleans, has five grades, the holders of the two most senior of which can be referred to as knights. The grades in the order are thus:

  • Superior Knight/Dame (SKP/SDP)
  • Knight/Dame Commander (KCA/DCA)
  • Commander (CAO)
  • Officer (OAO)
  • Member (MAO)

Order of the South

The Order of the South has four grades. The grades in the order are thus:

  • Knight/Dame Protector (KPSP/DPSP), with a maximum quota of 3 members
  • Knight/Dame (KPS/DPS), with a maximum quota of 12 members
  • Squire (SSP)
  • Lord/Lady (LSP)

Medals

Military Medals

Military Medals are awards given to enlisted members of the Army of Pontchartrain-Maurepas by the Duke, usually on the recommendation of the recipient's commanding officer. Military Medals were established to provide awards for the soldiers who were fighting during the Pontunian Crisis, originally as military counterparts to civilian medals (see below). A person can only have one Military Medal at a time, the highest awarded.

The Military Medals in order of precedence and their recipients are thus:

  • The Steel Cross (SC) - "for acts of the greatest heroism, courage or self-sacrifice in the name of duty during warfare".
    • None awarded.
  • The Warrior Cross (WC) - "for acts of heroism, courage or self-sacrifice in the name of duty during warfare".
    • None awarded.
  • The Gold Star of Bravery (GSB) - "for conspicuous gallantry during active operations against the enemy".
    • None awarded.
  • The Silver Star of Bravery (SSB) - "for gallantry during active operations against the enemy".
    • None awarded.
  • The Military Cross - "for taking part in active operations against the enemy to the best of one’s ability".
    • None awarded.
