Brikshasthana is a constituency represented in the Lok Sabha, the unicameral legislature of Vishwamitra and is one of the 3 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state of Beltola. This constituency was established in 2021 prior to the March 2021 general election as a part of the delimitation of the constituencies in the state.
History
The constituency came into existence as a part of the delimitation of the Lok Sabha constituencies which took place in January 2021 prior to the March 2021 general election. Of the existing nine constituencies in Beltola, the total number of constituencies were reduced to three. The Basant Bahar, Beltola Urban, Beltola Rural and Beltola Central constituencies were merged into the Basant Bahar constituency; Beltola Capital Territory and Beltola National Constituency was merged to form the Brikshasthana constituency; while Bhetapara Urban, Bhetapara Rural and Bhetapara Central constituencies were merged to form the Bhetapara constituency.
Princess Anoushkaa twice won the election from this constituency in the 13th and 14th Lok Sabha. However, she resigned as a member in March 2022 upon her installation as the Rajpramukh of Basistha. In a by-election which took place in May 2022, Thomas Jacobs unopposed won from the constituency but was disqualified by the Supreme Court of Vishwamitra in August 2022.
In the 2022 general election to the 15th Lok Sabha, former prime minister Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu of the Vishwamitran National Party defeated National People's Congress nominee Suryadeva Kapei and was elected to the house.
