California (officially known as the Caliphate of California), is an administrative union of two duchies under the direct rule of the Empress of the Renoan Empire. It consists of the unincorporated lands of California and consists of the Duchy of Sequoia) and the Duchy of Colorado. California is the home territory of the Queen and as such is her personal domain in which she rules outright as both the supreme leader and the personal administrator. It is entirely within the region of California, spanning from the Shasta mountains in the north to the tip of the Baja Peninsula in the south, the Pacific Ocean in the west, and the Sierra Nevada mountains, Tahoe, and Nevada Desert to the east. Its boundaries are largely defined by its geography and topography with the Sierras and Shastas, as well as the Colorado River and Sea of Cortez defining much of its eastern and northern borders, whereas its western border ends at the Pacific Ocean. It's Southern border ends at the aforementioned Baja Peninsula at the town of Cabo San Lucas
The climate varies by region with much of the north and coast ranges being a [[w:Mediterranean climate|Mediterranean climate. Its far northern border region is more temperate giving way to Douglas Fir forests and Redwoods. The climate becomes more arid the further south you travel, giving way to desert landscapes. It boasts wonders such as Death Valley National Park, which has the lowest elevation in North America (Badwater) at -282 feet (-86 meters) below sea level. It also is home to the megaopolis that is the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento metro areas as well as the Los Angeles and San Diego metro areas. However, as only a dozen people out of its some 10-12 million residents are actual Renoan citizens, they are not counted as part of the official population being defined as "unincorporated subjects". While the official capital is Sacramento, it's formal capital is Junopolis.
