The Dictatorship of Delsupremia, more commonly referred to as Delsupremia, is a micronation located within the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. It currently consists of three non-contiguous land claims known as provinces. Having declared independence from the United States on November 23, 2015, the micronation now has a total land area of approximately 15.13 acres and a population of 53 citizens. The capital is Delsupreme, and the most populous province is Memeprima. The micronation's form of government is a dictatorship. The current dictator, holding the title of Supreme Commander, is Jarred Patterson. He has ruled since the nation's founding.

Etymology

The official name of the nation is “The Dictatorship of Delsupremia”. The first use of the name “Dictatorship of Delsupremia” is found in the country’s Declaration of Independence.

The nation is commonly referred to by the shortened name “Delsupremia”. The name “Delsupremia” originated from combining three words, “Deluxe, Supreme, Premium”. These words represented the original ideals on which the nation was founded.

A citizen of Delsupremia is known as a Delsupremian.

A common abbreviation for Delsupremia is “DSP”.

History

Origin

In November 2015, Jarred Patterson, the future Supreme Commander, desired to create his own micronation. The nation was founded on the ideals “Deluxe, Supreme, Premium". These words served to form the name Delsupremia. After the signing of the Declaration of Independence by Jarred Patterson and his brother Luke Patterson, the Dictatorship of Delsupremia declared its independence from the United States of America on November 23, 2015.

Over the next few years, the national identity of Delsupremia started taking shape. The Supreme Commander started to get friends involved, many of which became patriotic towards the young nation. Later on, individuals who were loyal to the nation but had not become full citizens would come to be known as "spirit citizens".

In February 2017 during a youth retreat, Graham Penn, a friend of the Commander, was bestowed the title of Delsupremian Commando. Graham Penn would later go on to become Delsupremia’s first general. On March 20, 2019, General Graham Penn became the first person to participate in the Delsupremian Soiling of Allegiance Ceremony and receive full citizenship.

On March 28, 2019, Delsupremia made its first territorial expansion by annexing a piece of land in Campbell County, Virginia. The Annexation Ceremony was conducted by Supreme Commander Jarred Patterson and the Delsupremian Prince, Marcus "AK" Kwon Patterson. The land was designated as a new province and was given the name Sermate by the Prince.

Jacksonian War

On April 2, 2019, the course of Delsupremian history was forever changed. Tanner Jackson, who was at the time a friend of the Commander, declared war against Delsupremia. Up to this point, Tanner Jackson had been minimally involved in Delsupremian affairs. However, the Supreme Commander had extended an offer of full citizenship and the title “Daddy Tanny, Daddy of All Men” to Tanner Jackson. He denied the offer, calling Delsupremia a tyrannical patriarchy and a cult. He then wrote a formal declaration of war. Delsupremia immediately responded with their own declaration of war, calling the military to immediate action and warning citizens to prepare for the worst. It was declared that Tanner Jackson would be known as Shameothy Jackson by all citizens for the duration of the war. The Supreme Commander made it clear that he did not desire this war. The Supreme Commander stated that he would end the war whenever Shameothy wished. The offer of citizenship and a title still stood, and Delsupremia would welcome Shameothy Jackson back joyfully.

At the start of the war, Delsupremia had a population of 14, a military of 2, and many spirit citizens. The sudden outbreak of the war led to a rapid growth in population and development of national identity.

Before the war began, the Supreme Commander had planned to hold a Mass Soiling of Allegiance Ceremony for the remainder of his friends who were not yet citizens. Shameothy Jackson declared war only 3 days before the ceremony. However, the ceremony was more needed than ever during this trying time. The ceremony proceeded as planned, on April 5, 2019 and caused the population of Delsupremia to jump from 14 to 29.

During the war, the Supreme Commander decided it was time to design a new flag for Delsupremia. The original flag of Delsupremia was created by the Supreme Commander and his brother when independence was first declared. However, the original flag was viewed as a sort of placeholder flag until a flag better reflecting the national identity of Delsupremia could be produced. On April 9, 2019, a national flag contest to design a new flag began. All citizens were encouraged to submit designs. At the end of the contest, a flag designed by Blake Bonheim, who was also the Secretary of Paperwork, was chosen as the official flag of the Dictatorship of Delsupremia. This is the flag still flown to this day.

On May 15, 2019, the first and only battle of the war was waged by the Supreme Commander, his general, and two other brave citizens. The battle took place at the home of Shameothy Jackson and was fought by placing miniature Delsupremian flags all around his yard. Shameothy Jackson was not home at the time of the battle. It was a decisive Delsupremian victory. When Shameothy arrived home and discovered the flags, he was enraged. This battle may have also encouraged Shameothy Jackson to end the war only 10 days later.

On May 25, 2019, the Supreme Commander and his friends all graduated from High School. Shameothy Jackson agreed to end the war on that day as a graduation gift. All military campaigns against Shameothy were scaled back and ended. The peace treaty was signed immediately after the graduation ceremony with many cheerful citizens as witnesses. Shameothy Jackson was restored his name Tanner Jackson and bestowed the title “Daddy Tanny, Daddy of All Men”. It was truly a joyous time for the people of Delsupremia.

Post-War

Following the war, Delsupremia experienced a period of peace until 2020. However, on September 2, 2019, Delsupremia sadly lost one of its founding members when Joyce Ruff, the Supreme Commander’s grandmother passed away. This tragic event lowered Delsupremia’s population from 29 to 28. Then in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic occurred, many citizens had to stay isolated and Delsupremian events were postponed.

During the summer of 2020, the family of Blake Bonheim, the Secretary of Paperwork, took a road trip to the western United States. On the trip they brought a Delsupremian flag. Two of Blake Bonheim’s family members, Chris and Marla Yeatts, were very eager in exploring new western lands for Delsupremia and bringing the flag the farthest it has ever been. They have come to be known as the “Lewis and Clark of Delsupremia”.

On November 22, 2020, the Supreme Commander held a celebration for the 5th Anniversary of Delsupremian Independence which would occur the following day on November 23, 2020. The celebration consisted of both an annexation ceremony and a Soiling of Allegiance Ceremony. The land annexed was a piece of land in Amherst County, VA. The land was designated as a new province and was given the name Memeprima by the Prince. This annexation increased the total land area of Delsupremia from 14.59 acres to its current size of 15.13 acres.

The Soiling of Allegiance Ceremony that was held raised the population of Delsupremia from 28 to 31. One of the individuals to finally receive citizenship was Tanner Jackson who had been promised citizenship and a title at the end of the Jacksonian War. Tanner Jackson was also given the position of Federal Archivist. Additionally, Tanner Jackson’s wife became a citizen making the couple eligible to become the parents of the first natural born citizen once they have their first child.

On December 5, 2020, the Bonheim family gave a surprise gift to Delsupremia. The gift was 1 acre of land on the moon. They gave the gift “in the spirit of constantly expanding Delsupremia’s realm”. The Supreme Commander accepted the gift joyfully. The acre of land was designated as a Delsupremian claim.

On December 24, 2020, the Supreme Commander aired his First Christmas Address to the nation on the official Delsupremian YouTube channel.

On June 21, 2021, Tanner and Olivia Jackson announced that Olivia was pregnant. This news was received joyfully as the baby was set to become the first natural born citizen.

On August 8, 2021, the Supreme Commander held a Delsupremian End-of-Summer Soirée, inviting close friends and family. The Soirée was held at Sermate and doubled as a Mass Soiling of Allegiance Ceremony. The ceremony increased the population of Delsupremia from 31 to 46. Additionally, Chris and Marla Yeatts were officially granted the title "The Lewis and Clark of Delsupremia".

On August 21, 2021, a Soiling of Allegiance Ceremony was held for the parents of Jonathan Stanton, Timothy and Becky Stanton to become citizens. This ceremony raised the population of Delsupremia from 46 to 48. Timothy Stanton was granted the title "The Missionary of Delsupremia" and Becky Stanton was granted the title "Den Mother".

On September 1, 2021, James Jackson was born to Tanner and Olivia Jackson. All of Delsupremia rejoiced at this wonderful news. On that day, James Jackson became the first natural born citizen of the Dictatorship of Delsupremia.

On October 14, 2021, a Soiling of Allegiance Ceremony was held raising the population to 50.

Geography

The three provinces of Delsupremia occupy an area of 15.13 acres. The capital, Delsupreme, comprises 12.7 acres, Sermate occupies 1.89 acres, and Memeprima is 0.54 acres. All three provinces are non-contiguous and are enclaves within the U.S. Delsupremia also possesses a land claim on the moon. The claim is 1 acre located in the region known as the Lunar Alps.

Delsupremia is a landlocked state but has access to the Big Otter River which is bordered by Delsupreme. Delsupremia is approximately 73.7% woodland. Almost all of this woodland is located within the capital, Delsupreme. The highest point in Delsupremia, located in Sermate, is approximately 263 meters above sea level. The lowest point, located in Delsupreme, is approximately 195 meters above sea level.

The climate of Delsupremia is humid subtropical.

Wildlife

The national bird of Delsupremia is the Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex). The Shoebill can be found on the National Seal of Delsupremia and in the watermarks of official documentation. Delsupremia currently contains 0 shoebills.

The domesticated dog population has been estimated to be 3. The domesticated cat population has been estimated to be 2.

Demographics

Population

The current population of Delsupremia is 53. Of this population, 18.9% of citizens are founding citizens, 79.2% are naturalized citizens, and 1.9% are natural born citizens.

As of 2021, 15.1% of citizens reside on Delsupremian soil, 79.2% reside in the United States, and 5.7% reside in South Korea. The most populous city is Memeprima.

Currently, 71.7% of the Delsupremian population is male, while 28.3% is female. As of 2021, 34.0% of Delsupremian citizens are married.

Language

The official language of Delsupremia is English. The Supreme Commander has expressed his interest in one day making Esperanto an official language if enough citizens were to learn it.

As of 2021, 7.5% of Delsupremians speak English and Korean.

Religion

Religious freedom is guaranteed in Delsupremia.

Currently, 100% of Delsupremians identify as Christian.

Education

As of 2021, 92.5% of Delsupremian citizens have completed a high school level education.

Government

The Dictatorship of Delsupremia is a total dictatorship. The official title of the dictator is “Supreme Commander”. The nation currently has no constitution and the Supreme Commander is the ultimate law of the land. The current dictator is Jarred Patterson. The Supreme Commander has publicly described himself as “a benevolent dictator” and “a man of the people”.

The government currently has two departments, namely the Department of Aggression and the Department of Paperwork. The Department of Aggression is the military department of the Delsupremian government. It oversees and manages the operations of the entire Delsupremian military. The current leader of the Department of Aggression is General Graham Penn.

The Department of Paperwork takes care of all paperwork involved in the running of the nation by the Supreme Commander. This includes citizenship forms, articles of annexations, treaties, letters, and more. The head of the Department of Paperwork is known as the Secretary of Paperwork. The current Secretary of Paperwork is Blake Bonheim.

Foreign Relations

While the Dictatorship of Delsupremia has not established official relations with any nation, it is on friendly terms with the United States. Because Delsupremia is an independent nation, its citizens do not pay taxes to the U.S. Instead, citizens pay what the Delsupremian government calls "foreign aid" which happens to be equivalent in monetary value to what the United States insists on calling "taxes". Delsupremia does this to keep the U.S. on friendly terms.

Economy

The most common currency used by Delsupremian citizens in daily activities is the U.S. dollar. This is because many Delsupremian citizens are employed in the United States and commute there daily. Additionally, many citizens currently reside in the U.S. Delsupremia imports the majority of its food and manufactured products from the U.S.

The Supreme Commander has expressed interest in one day creating a Delsupremian currency. This currency would likely be a cryptocurrency.

Infrastructure

The Delsupremian road system consists of four distinct driveways distributed between all three provinces.

Culture

Because the nation is only 5 years old, the Delsupremian culture is still young. However, the culture has developed significantly since the nation’s birth. When asked, the Supreme Commander described Delsupremian culture as the following:

"It's a very memey culture. A jovial, laid-back, fun-loving, tight-knit culture. Maybe sometimes a little strange. But a day never goes by in Delsupremia without a good laugh."

Delsupremian culture is known for its unique sense of humor, its focus on family and friends, and its ultimate goal of glorifying Christ. Delsupremia is nothing if not humorous yet its citizens are intensely patriotic and committed to the nation's well-being. The Supreme Commander has described Delsupremia with the following:

"Delsupremia is a fierce brew of serious and satire."

A major goal of the Dictatorship of Delsupremia is to bring together friends and family and to keep people in touch. It has seen wide success in this endeavor. Therefore, the Supreme Commander, in order to ensure this effect continues, has decreed that for a newborn baby to be considered a natural-born citizen, both of the parents of the child must have become naturalized citizens before the child's birth. This will ensure that Delsupremian culture remains tight-knit and that all citizens are knowledgeable of their homeland.

Flag

The Delsupremian Flag was designed by Blake Bonheim and adopted in 2019. The red and white stripes represent Delsupremia’s birth out of America. There are 10 stripes to represent the original 10 founders of Delsupremia. The green triangle resembles a mountain rising out of the sea. This represents Delsupremia’s ever growing lands. The yellow star represents the Supreme Commander leading the nation forward.
