The Greater Metro East is a term used to categorize micronations that are mostly located inside southern Illinois, but mainly near St. Louis, MO. The term has been in use since August 2023. The Greater Metro East's key macronational cities are Alton, Belleville, Collinsville, and Edwardsville.

History

Schpecktenia, being the first movement of micronationalism, started the micronational movement in the Greater Metro East, namely the cities of Edwardsville and Glen Carbon. Schpecktenia had a little to no impact on the region up until middle 2023, when more people started joining Schpecktenia. With population building up, there was more of a chance of other people in the area to hear about micronationalism. Schpecktenia then left the New Prussian peoples feeling less and less represented, leading to a New Prussian independence. The process was peaceful, causing New Prussia to be fully independent and grow their nation.

The most notable event in the region is the various conflicts during the Greater Metro East War. The wars were seemingly over Taydrostian independence rather than Schpecktenian politics, allowing a new Taydrostian culture to form. The majority of Taydrostian peoples were not affiliated in any way with Schpecktenia before Taydrostia's initial independence, allowing the population of Taydrostia to form completely separate culture in the Greater Metro East.

Micronations which possess territory in southern Illinois are automatically classified as a Greater Metro East nation due to geographical location.

Schpecktenia

The Provincist Republic of Schpecktenia is by far the most advanced and influential micronation in the region, being the nation that started the micronational movement in the Greater Metro East. All but one micronation in the Greater Metro East gained independence from Schpecktenia. The culture of Schpecktenia is based on the Midwest subcultures of younger people, such as Indie, Post-grunge, and Soft Grunge.

New Prussia

The Kaiserreich of New Prussia is the second most powerful and influential micronation in the Greater Metro East, gaining independence from Schpecktenia in June 2023. The concept of New Prussia initially formed during the Schpecktenian Civil War, or Two Days War. Though Schpecktenian-New Prussian relations are extremely positive and are allies, New Prussia initially challenged Schpecktenia's strength during the New Prussian-Schpecktenian War. New Prussia is deemed a "constructed culture" state, taking aspects of existing German and Norse Pagan culture.

Taydrostia

The Great Taydrostian Empire is the reformed Taydrostian Empire, originating from an independence movement from Schpecktenia in late October 2023. Taydrostia officially was granted independence as the Republic of South Meadowen after the War of the First Front. The new Taydrostia was heavily controlled by Schpecktenia, then starting another independence movement from South Meadowen called NITM. After the Taydrostian Civil War ended in a NITM victory, the Taydrostians formed a government following a reformed Provincism, a version of Provincism that Schpecktenia would adopt in February 2024. Taydrostia is similar in culture to Schpecktenia, but includes a great amount of Gaming and Sport culture.

South Meadowen

The Free Taydrostian Republic of South Meadowen is a reformed South Meadowen after the original government was disestablished by Taydrostia in late December 2023. South Meadowen is officially part of Taydrostia, but is allowed to be semi-independent in foreign relations and some self-government. Because of South Meadowen friendliness with Schpecktenia, the larger Taydrostian government is leaning more to peace with Schpecktenia, hopefully ending the Greater Metro East War. South Meadowen is identical in culture to Taydrostia, being a de-facto part of the nation.

Khanate

Not much at all is known about the Khanate, a micronation originating from the Young Democratic Socialist Club of the Edwardsville High School. New Prussian leader Luka Tallerico initially was involved slightly in the beginning of the Khanate, but was turned away for LGTB discrimination. Khanate made itself publicly known in the undocumented attack against Schpecktenia in August 2023.
