History of Belgica

The history of Belgica begins in March 2019

Early History

Belgica was established on the 27th of May 2019. First, they were a province of Fesmar, (A nation in Cornwall) but after a decline of Fesmar, the right-hand man of the then Governor decided to make a movement for independence. A day after that, the Governor of Belgica joined. After a short conflict Belgica won and Put Jules as the King of Belgica. Jules gave the title of king to Mats after a month due to personal matters.

Early Growth and Outreach

During the first days of Belgican independence a lot of anti-Fesmarians joined our server and government, we prospered during the first month with our discord server growing up to 40 members and our IRL population to 20 people. We became friendly with multiple nations like Appalachia(now Aspen) and later on with Misberia.

New conflicts

Then, the conflicts with Fesmar started. Fesmar claimed that Mats was an illegitimate king and wanted Belgica to become a province once again. After 4 conflicts with Fesmar, the Emperor of Fesmar backed down and offered his nation to join the Belgican empire, which the officials of Belgica refused due to the fear of later uprisings of Fesmarian nationalists.

Kernowist revolts

On the 9th of October, a communist Revolution started, they were supported by Fesmar(then Kernow). In the first days, King Mats supported them and their numbers grew and Kenneth gained more power, he even got the king to change the name of Belgica to Flandras, but the Crown prince did not like the whole ordeal and demanded that the Kernowists supporters be thrown out of the government and exiled, King Mats agreed to this and Kenneth was declared an outlaw. Flandras changed their name back to Belgica and the old government gained their rightful place back.

Fesmarian troubles

The civil war in Belgica ended in the Monarchists their favor but with Kernow in ruins, the King and Crown Prince of Belgica decided to help the leader of Fesmar with the task of rebuilding his country, he needed to change his government back to a monarchist government, but then the king of Fesmar became upset at the Belgican officials for keeping Fesmarian lands under the close supervision of Belgican supporters. The King of Fesmar was so angry that he started a 'cold war'. After a month of arguments between both nations, Fesmar plunged into a civil war between Monarchists and Republicans, the Republicans had the support of Belgica and the Monarchists had the support of Stormhold. The republicans received Saxonian citizens(Belgican territory in Cornwall) to help them in their struggle, while Stormhold only showed diplomatic support, this ended with the Monarchist side losing and Fesmar joining Belgica.

Fesmar-Belgica

During the first days of Fesmar-Belgica multiple laws were made to ensure the Freedom of Speech and Human rights, they gained more land in Cornwall and Belgica most of the land came from Ainsworth joining, Ainsworth was lead by an IFA officer and an old succession state of the second Fesmarian empire which collapsed on the 14th of April 2019. However, this prosperity did not last forever because the leader of Fesmar and Belgica did not always agree with each other and this lead to Fesmar Belgica dissolving.

The dawn of a new decade

Joining Misberia

On the 18th of January talks between Belgica and Misberia began on Belgica joining Misberia as a commonwealth. Belgica began drafting their terms and on the 4th of February, they joined. During this period Belgica began to boom and gained more citizens both on Discord and in real life, but Misberia faced an opposite situation to that of Belgica. They began to slowly dissolve due to Archie wanting to focus more on a personal micronational project instead of Misberia. And on the 8th of March Misberia dissolved releasing Belgica.

New land in Cornwall

On the 10th of March, Belgica was contacted by Hans. Hans lived near Plymouth(a large city in Cornwall) and he wished to join Belgica as a member state. After a small debate in the Government, Belgica said yes and the land that Hans offered was named Saxony(named after a previous colony of Belgica in Cornwall). Saxony was made a principality and grew a lot in the first days of them joining, most of the people joining were friends and family of Hans.

New powers in Cornwall

While Belgica was blooming, Fesmar and other nations in Cornwall weren't doing so well. The Fesmarian republic which reigned from the 11th of August until the 13th of March 2020 collapsed resulting in two new Kingdoms, the Fesmarian Kingdom lead by Kenneth who used to be the emperor of the Fesmarian empire and the Ainsworthian kingdom which was lead by Fynley Ainsworth. The Fesmarian kingdom expanded rather quickly due to old Fesmarian royalists rejoining it, the royalists were very anti Belgica because they believed that Belgica was the cause of Fesmar collapsing in April 2019. The Fesmarian royal Kenneth was very friendly with Belgica the nations made Trade agreements and non-aggression pacts, to celebrate the new friendship Belgica gave Saxony(with the approval of Hans) to Fesmar. Because of this Belgica could focus on their homeland in Belgium, a new PM was chosen in Belgic and he announced the following: Belgica isn't a democracy anymore, the parliament and the senate are no more and there will be a state council ruling Belgica together with the king. The PM made multiple plans to improve Belgican administration, like making a detailed map of their claims and appointing someone as the accountant of Belgica.

Meeting of former-Fesmarian nations

On the 28th of April Kenneth of Fesmar asked all former Fesmarian nations to join a meeting, During the meeting multiple things was proposed by Kenneth of Fesmar, one of the thing that he proposed is that we all add 5 national holidays but we only agreed on making 3 of them holidays in Belgica: Fesmarian Independence day/Signing day March 15 Stormholdian independence day 24 April Belgican independence day 27 May. They also agreed on making a page on microwiki dedicated to our shared history.

However, after the Belgican official left the other officials stayed and discussed a reunification and they all agreed that it was time for them to unify, Saxony did not want this and rejoined Belgica.

Anti-Belgican Policies

The new government of the reunified Fesmarian nations was very anti-Belgica, the government comprised mostly of Fesmarian officials who all were in the government of Fesmar during the collapse in April 2019 or were anti-Belgican due to other reasons. But luckily for Belgica the 3 kings didn't agree on what to do and a civil war started.

The splitting of Fesmar

After the collapse of Fesmar there was extended unrest in the regions comprising Fesmar. Within days of the June Revolution the entirety of Fesmar was split amongst three competing governments. In the west was the Fesmarian Commonwealth ran by Roadrunner, the Commonwealth was renamed Stormhold shortly after. In the centre was the Fesmarian Democratic Republic ran by the former monarch Kenneth Fydtroust and in the east Fesmar-Ainsworth ran by Fynley who was a former officer in the IFA. These three governments entered into an agreement to prevent civil conflict, Revolutionary forces have stepped down and the entire region has become a hotbed of tensions. It was unlikely that reunification could have happened any time soon.

A time for new allies and new enemies

Fesmar-Ainsworth contacted Belgica to create a new pact called the July act of peace, all of the nations in Cornwall joined it except for the FDR, the act still stands and is meant to ensure peace in Cornwall and to protect all that signed, the signatories cant declare war on each other and must recognise each other. The FDR became more isolated from the other nations in Cornwall due to them feeling threatened and talked about the signatories like traitors because they were in a pact together with Belgica,
