The impeachment of Grant Taylor occurred from 17 October to 18 October 2023. Grant Taylor served as the President of Worrell before his impeachment by the House of Representatives for treason on account of being inactive in the Republic for numerous weeks to months. Generally, this impeachment was a first of its kind, as Worrell had never seen a President be impeached before. The impeachment of Taylor set a precedent for the process in the Second Republic of Worrell.

Taylor's impeachment came after an informal inquiry, which had been launched on 17 October 2023. Then-Vice President Charles Mevd established the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, which then subsequently launched an official inquiry to determine the future of the nation. After the inquiry, many committee members suggested an impeachment and removal of Taylor to spur activity by way of a snap Presidential election.

After the inquiry was complete, the official impeachment process began where a referendum from the House of Representatives voted to impeach Taylor unanimously, aside from one vote not being made at all. The decision to remove Taylor from office was also supported unanimously.

Background

Grant Taylor had been elected as the Second President of Worrell on 3 August 2023 following multiple run-off votes. Taylor finally won the majority in the sixth round of voting, against Charles Mevd who he would make his Vice President the same day he won the Presidency.

After becoming President, Taylor established a Supreme Court with multiple justices serving on the court, however afterwards he seemingly vanished from the Republic. After months of inactivity, then-Vice President Mevd decided to determine the future of the nation with citizens who actively wanted to see the Republic thrive.

On 17 October 2023, Mevd established the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, appointing numerous members. They then launched an official inquiry to determine the future of the Republic. In their inquiry, multiple committee members made it vocal that it was their opinion that Taylor should be impeached. The idea was that through impeachment of Taylor, Mevd would hold snap elections to the Presidency and those elections would spur not only activity again but growth of membership in the Second Republic of Worrell.

On the same day that the Committee was established, the Honorable Anthony Ramirez, a Representative in the House then decided to report his own findings in a document titled the Report on the Effects of the Inactivity of President Taylor on the Second Republic of Worrell. The effects of this report were massive, as it encouraged multiple Representatives of the House to become active again to determine what should happen in regards to President Grant.

Impeachment process

After the release of the report by Ramirez, who had collaborated with Mevd to create such a report, Mevd initiated the official impeachment process by way of vote from the House of Representatives. In the Worrellian constitution, it is clearly states that in order to impeach a President, the House of Representatives must have at least 80 percent of the Representatives to vote in favor. This was an issue, as Worrell only had four Representatives at that time, meaning all four Representatives would have had to vote in favor. The initial vote was meant to take place in 24 hours, however one Representative - the nations founder, Matthew Cunningham - made it clear that he would not vote in any regard, in favor, not in favor, or even present.

After his announcement, the other Representatives had already voted unanimously in a decision to impeach Taylor. On 17 October 2023, Grant Taylor was officially impeached by the House of Representatives in a unanimous decision from the House. Following his impeachment, the official vote began on 17 October 2023, with the same guidelines, however this vote was over removal from office of the Presidency. On the following day, a similarly unanimous vote removed Taylor from the office.

Transition of Power

The transition of power had already taken place before Taylor was removed from office, as Mevd had transitioned Presidential powers to himself following the impeachment inquiry as it activated Article 2 Section 15 of the Constitution. A snap presidential election is now taking place in the Republic to determine the future President of Worrell.
