The Latvanian Armed Forces are the military forces of the Kingdom of Latvania. It consists of the Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, Waters Patrol and Home Guards. The King of Latvania is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and appoints a Secretary of Defense to constitute a group to administrate the Warfare Command, which includes the Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Waters Patrol (this one only during wartime), and a Secretary of Homeland Security for the administration of the Homeland Security Command, which includes Home Guards and Waters Patrol during peacetime.

The Latvanian Armed Forces never lead any war as of 2021, and all of its members (apart from the Homeland Security Command) are in a state of reserve.

History

The Latvanian Armed Forces were created in 2018, following the proclamation of the Kingdom in May, the Armed Forces (at the time only the Army) were approved by the government and the King as the defence forces of the Kingdom. The Constitution (its writing is still in progress), gives the Congress powers over the administration of the Armed Forces, and the King the power to use them to enforce the Constitution and declare war if necessary.

On September 27, 2020, the Latvanian Waters Patrol led Operation Lober, which consisted in examinating the rivers and waters of Latvania to assure the good state of the Louisiana Red Crayfish and other crayfish species in the country. The operation was completed with the help of foreign assistants and it was personally led by the King and the Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security.

Service branches, commands and agencies

The Latvanian Armed Forces, as stated before, are composed of five branches and various agencies, each under a specific adminitration under either the Department of Defense or the Department of Homeland Security. The Armed Forces Commander-In-Chief is the King of the nation, and every branch and agency can be transfered under his control anytime without Congress' approval.

Warfare Command

Latvanian Army

The Latvanian Army is the land component of the Latvanian Armed Forces. It is administred by the Warfare Command, under the Department of Defense and it is responsible for land warfare, specifically trained for defense operations. The Army is also responsible for special operations (these operations can be led by Joint Special Operation Command, or JSOC, if other branches are involved), airborne assaults, and armored operations.

The Latvanian National Guard is also under the Latvanian Army, but administrated by each state independently as public state militias, and can be used in aid of other branches or for state protection in times of crisis. During peace time, the National Guard is led by each state governor, but the power can be transfered to the Secretary of Defense in times of crisis after Congress approval. National Guard duties include state borders patrols and natural calamities aid and reconstruction.

Latvanian Marine Corps

The Latvanian Marine Corps is the assault and amphibious assault component of the Latvanian Armed Forces. Marines are specialized in land, naval and air combat, and are specifically trained for assault purposes, including paratrooper operations, reconnaissance and amphibious invasions, very often coordinated with other branches such as Army and Waters Patrol. Marine Corps also has special forces that operate under the JSOC, but also under the Marines Special Operation Command (MARSOC), which is entirely unique to the Marine Corps, and can operate indipendently.
