The Peacekeeping Medal is a Royal Ameristralian Defence Forces decoration awarded for "deployment to foreign nations for the purpose of peacekeeping support."
Foreign soldiers who have served alongside or with Royal Ameristralian Defence Forces are eligible for the award.
General information
The Peacekeeping Medal was established by the Act to Establish Ameristralian Honours for Citizens, Military and Foreign Dignitaries - Contributory Factors, Eligibility, Requirements, Categories, and Rites 2021. The Commendation Medal may be awarded by the Minister of Defence, or by such military commanders, as the Minister may designate, to any person, while serving in any capacity in or with the Royal Ameristralian Defence Forces. When the Peacekeeping Medal is awarded, the following criteria apply -
- while serving alongside friendly foreign forces involved in a conflict with an opposing foreign force in which Ameristralia is not a belligerent party;
- while performing advisory or consultatory duties alongside friendly forces involved in a conflict with an opposing foreign force in which Ameristralia is not a belligerent party;
- while deployed on behalf of a foreign nation for the purposes of peacekeeping or training of friendly foreign forces.
There are no other requirements for the medal.
Appearance
The Peacekeeping Medal was designed by David Brooke in 2021. (Brooke designed all Ameristralian military decorations).
The medal is a silver medallion with an inset of the Ameristralian flag holding the Coat of Arms of Ameristralia measuring 38mm (11/2 inches) in circumferential diameter. The reverse of the medallion has a space for the recipient's name to be engraved.
The medallion hangs from its ribbon by a circular loop. The ribbon is 35mm (13/8 inches) in width.
History
The Lord Mayor of Ameristralia, David Brooke, presented the idea of military decorations, along with other military decorations, to the Municipal Assembly on 28 August 2021 to award Ameristralian service members who distinguished themselves. The Municipal Assembly agreed and approved several military decorations.
