The Prime Minister of Ashaonia is the head of government of the Ashaonian Republic. The prime minister advises the president on how to exercise much of their power, as well as chairing the Council of Ministers and nominating members of the assembly of the republic to become ministers. As prime ministers typically hold office by virtue of their ability to command the confidence of the Assembly of the Republic, they sit as a member of Parliament.
Authority and Constraints
In the Assembly of the Republic, the prime minister guides the law-making process with the goal of enacting the legislative agenda of their political party. In an executive capacity, the prime minister nominates, and may dismiss all cabinet members and ministers as well as coordinating the policies all government departments, and the staff of the Civil Service. The prime minister also acts as the public "face" and "voice" of the Government of Ashaonia, both at home and abroad and may undertake some diplomatic missions on behalf of and with the confidence of the president.
Appointment
The prime minister is appointed by the President of Ashaonia. The president can theoretically appoint who they want but they typically appoint a nominee from the assembly who, by convention, is typically the largest party in parliament.
