Barvinia, officially the Republic of Barvinia (Portuguese: República da Barvínia; Portuguese pronunciation: [bár'ví'neea]), is a small self-declared country, commonly known as a micronation, located in South America, bordering Brazil. The territory of Barvinia is enclaved within the Brazilian state of São Paulo, in the city of Taubaté. The capital is Naquine. The country is divided into 3 provinces and 7 municipalities. Portuguese is the national and official language. English, is used only in foreign affairs, having the working language status.

Modern-day Barvinia was inhabited by numerous tribal nations until settlement by the Portuguese Empire in the 16th century establishing its new Colony of Brazil, which gained its independence in 1822 with the creation of the Empire of Brazil, later becoming a presidential republic after a military coup d'état in 1889. From 19th century to the beginning of 20th century the primary territory that would form Barvinia received immigrants that would shape the national culture.

Founded by Matheus Lima on 13 February 2022, Barvinia as a central unitary democractic presidential republic, since February 7, 2023, the country is a Constitutional Monarchy.

Etymology

From Latin "Bavaria", the name of the country makes alusion to Bavaria, representing the Europeans that went to South America, especially to Brazil, early 20th century to work and build family, resulting in Barvinia.

History

The Republic of Barvinia was preceded by five states before it's independence: the Kingdom of Portugal, the Empire of Brazil, the Federative Republic of Brazil as macronations of origin, and the Republic of Mongo and the State of Aires as micronational previous incarnations. After dificult seasons in the economy of the region, the Republic of Barvinia was founded on 13 Februrary 2022 by Matheus Lima, in the National District and capital of Republic, the city of Naquine. On February 07, 2023, the Barvinian Monarchist Party won the national elections and declared the Kingdom of Barvinia, moving the capital from Naquine to São Roque.

Politics and government

Barvinia's government is composed by nine ministries: the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Enviroment, the Ministry of Foreign Relations, the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Traffic, the Ministry of Civilian-Military Aviation, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Publich Health. All these ministries are responsable for the subjects pertaining to their portfolio and assist His Royal Majesty, the King.

Law and order

Barvinia is ruled by a National Constitution that is tightly followed by its King, ministries, military and departments. The Barvinian police is responsable to guarantee the public security under the limitations issued by the constitutional text.

Foreign relations

Barvinia has formally established diplomatic relations with the Southern Confederation of Angosvria, the Eritonian Empire and the Alliadense Republic of Guanallia. Informal relations were stabilished with the Kingdom of Egemonica and the Federative Republic of Prata.

Military

Barvinian military is composed by three branches: the Barvinian Army (Portuguese: Exército Barvínio), the Barvinian Air Force (Portuguese: Força Aérea Barvínia) and the National Barvinian Navy (Portuguese: Marinha Nacional Barvínia). All the branches have as their mission defense of national interests abroad and the social order in home.

The climate is classified as a humid subtropical climate, under the Köppen climate classification with the average annual temperature around 21 °C (69 °F), with a maximum of 19 °C (66 °F) and a minimum of 10 °C (50 °F), with average humidity of 60% and the annual rainfalls of 1,40mm (55 inches), the extremes temperatures recorded on the country are 1 °C (33 °F) and 37.8 °C (100 °F).

"Pata-de-elefante" is the most common tree of Barvinia.

Geography

Most of the environment bordering Barvinia occupies areas of hills and mountains where crystalline rocks like granite and gneisses from the Precambrian Age (over 450 million years) predominate. This area extends from Serra da Piloa to the south and also in a small strip to the north, preceding Serra da Mantiqueira. The rest of the environment, including the urban area, its surroundings and the region through which the Paraíba do Sul River passes, is located in the Taubaté Sedimentary Basin, with tertiary and quaternary sediments from the Cenozoic Age (less than 65 million years old).

Totally surrounded by two mountain ranges, Serra da Mantiqueira and Serra do Mar, this geographical element is even mentioned in the Barvinian National Anthem:

"Que as serras que cercam tuas terras

Te protejam, sejam teus escudos. [...]"

In English, translated as:

"May the mountains that surround your lands

Protect you, be your shields. [...]"

Economy

After the Portuguese Escudo, Réis, Cruzeiro, Cruzado, Cruzado Novo, Cruzeiro Novo, Real and Buangue, the Barvinian Central Government estabilished the Barvinian Condor as the national currency, with the ₡1,00 = R$0,75 conversion rate.

Culture and media

"The Barvinian Times" is the state-owned newspapper of Barvinia, where all news issued by the government of the last 30 days are published monthly. It has also its video version, broadcasted by Barvinian Television Company (RBT) (Portuguese: Rede Barvínia de Televisão). RBT is the state-owned broadcasting company of Barvinia, where entertainment, news and official state announcements are broadcasted. Brazilian channels such as TV Globo, Record TV and Rede Bandeirantes are also very popular in Barvinia.
