The Vice Chief of the Defence Staff (VCDS) is the deputy to the Chief of the Defence Staff, the professional head of the Bastaran Armed Forces, and is the second highest ranking officer in the armed forces. The office has existed since June 2023, and is normally held by a three or four star officer and can be appointed from any branch of the military.

History

The office was established on 10 June 2023 as one of the earliest offices in the Bastaran military. It was founded with the establishment of the Chiefs of Staff Committee and is the second-most senior member of the committee and armed forces.

Responsibilities

The Vice Chief of the Defence Staff deputises for the Chief of the Defence Staff and has responsibility for running the armed forces aspects of defence business, principally through the chiefs of staff committee. The VCDS is primarily responsible for:

• Deputising for the Chief of the Defence Staff
• Co-Ordinating Delivery of Top Level Decisions Making
• Overseeing the Implementation of Top Level Decisions
• Conduct of Military Strategy
