The Workers' Party of Lazonesia (WPL) (Spanish: Partido de los Trabajadores de Lazonesia) is the sole ruling party of Democratic Lazonesia and controls the nation's armed forces, the Lazonesian People's Army. Smaller political parties are permitted to exist so long as they accept the "leading role" of the WPL. Officially, the WPL is a communist party guided by Lucasism, a combination of Marxism-Leninism, Juche, and the political theories of Lucas Gonyer.
History
The Workers' Party of Lazonesia was established by Canadian micronationalist Lucas Gonyer on 2 March 2021 to function as the revolutionary vanguard of the fledgling Lazonesian state, founded less than a year prior. Salisbury was elected general secretary of the party soon afterwards, and its membership slowly grew from an initial four members to a total of twelve by late 2023.
Ideology
The WPL official rule-book declares that all party members are "committed to upholding the revolutionary principles of Marxism–Leninism" and claims that the ultimate aim of the party is the creation of a communist society where the "wants and needs of all the peoples of the earth are fulfilled." Lucasism, the self-proclaimed ideology of the WPL, combines Marxism-Leninism with Juche and the personal theories of Lucas Gonyer regarding state construction within a socialist framework. The WPL considers itself as part of the worldwide leftist and socialist movements and dedicates its efforts to contributing to the spread of socialism globally.
Organization
The party congress, or national meeting, is the highest deliberative body of the WPL and convenes at the discretion of the general secretary. Party rules stipulate that the congress must meet a minimum of once every two years, although meetings can happen more frequently if needed. The central committee is the highest party body between national meetings, and its members are elected at each congress. The general secretary has de facto control over the party and its policies, and is also commander-in-chief of the party's armed wing, and national armed forces, the Lazonesian People's Army.
Symbols
The emblem of the WPL is an adaptation of the communist hammer and sickle, but instead consisting of a trowel and wrench. The trowel represents agricultural laborers while the wrench represents industrial workers, together symbolizing the "unbreakable unity of workers and peasants."
