The Monarchy of Arbya, sometimes known as the Arbyan Monarchy, is the head of state of the Kingdom of Arbya whom holds absolute power. The current monarch is King Oswald I, who took the throne after founding the monarchy. He ascended to the throne on 4 July 2023.
The monarch and their immediate family undertake various official, ceremonial, diplomatic and representational duties. The monarch holds absolute power so can directly govern the nation and has authority over the government (which is styled as "His/Her Majesty's Government").
The current monarch is Oswald I of Arbya.
Role
Constitutionally, the monarchy holds absolute power. They are the Arbyan sovereign and the most powerful office in the nation. While this is true, the monarch still has some roles they tend to carry out by convention or to aid in the exercising of their power.
Some of the things the monarch does includes but is not limited to:
- Appointing a Prime Minister
- Appointing Other Government Ministers
- Appointing Privy Councillors
- Calling, Dissolving and Proroguing Parliament
- Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces
- Supreme Governor of the Church of Arbya
- Appointing Senior Military Commanders
- Passing Royal Decrees
- Appointing a Chief Constable
The monarchy also is granted sovereign immunity.
History
The monarchy is the oldest Arbyan institution. It was first to be established on 4 July 2023 on the rise of the kingdom and is also the most powerful in Arbya. The monarchy was de facto established by King Oswald I, but de jure established by the constitution - though only being briefly outlined in the constitution.
The monarchy was preceded by the Chancellor of Arbya which served as head of state and head of government of the State of Arbya, which was founded and disbanded on 4 July 2023.
Style
The present monarch's full style and title is "King Oswald the first, by the Grace of God of the Kingdom of Arbya, Defender of the Faith". All Arbyan monarchs are styled as "His Majesty" or "Her Majesty" The monarch also chooses his or her regnal name, which is not necessarily always his or her first name - for example Oswald I chose a name other than his first name.
