Noonmati is a constituency represented in the Lok Sabha, the unicameral legislature of Vishwamitra and is one of the 2 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state of Madhya Prant. This constituency was established in 2017 and has continuously been existing since then.
History
Noonmati constituency came into existence for the first time during the 2017 general election. Debika Deka Pator Sarma was elected as the first member of parliament from the constituency and represented the constituency until her retirement from politics in 2021. She was succeeded by Arpan Deka in the 13th Lok Sabha.
The constituency was represented by Arnab Deka in the 14th Lok Sabha while Matthew Tonna represented the seat in the 15th Lok Sabha. Tonna resigned from the seat in January 2023. The vacancy was later filed in May 2023 by Rory Leonard who was unopposed elected as an independent candidate but later joined the opposition, Vishwamitran National Party. He later resigned on 12 June 2023. The vacancy was later filed in August 2023 by Jayden Dagsa who was unopposed elected from the National People's Congress and represented the constituency for the remainder of the 15th Lok Sabha.
Debika Deka Pator Sarma till date holds the record of being the longest-serving member of parliament from the constituency having being elected to the house consecutively for five terms. The National People's Congress is the most successful party in the seat.
