The Royal Guard (Norwegian: Kongelig Garde) is the national civilian law enforcement agency of the Commonwealth of Uskor, responsible for enforcing the law, enhancing public safety, maintaining order, arresting criminals, and protecting the government. The Royal Guard is overseen by the Ministry for Civil Defence & National Resilience via the Board of Commissioners and Independent Oversight Commission for the Royal Guard.

Foundations and history of law enforcement within Uskor

The foundations of the Royal Guard lie with the original constabulary established when Uskor itself was established.
Following on from this the various Uskorian law enforcement agencies that followed had various names and durations as the various government and forms of government in Uskor changed.
Most common names included the word or name “Watch” which was inspired by the name of the police force in the Discworld Series of books.
It has been stated that there has been a push by Uskorians both in government and outside of government to move away from the traditional concepts of policing and law enforcement into a more community orientated watch and keeping of the High Queen’s Laws and Peace, as well as a ceremonial role.
The Royal Guard follows on from these various “Watches” and was formally established by a Royal Decree during the Coronavirus pandemic of 2020.

Powers and Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Royal Guard is protecting Her Majesty’s peace, law enforcement, maintaining public safety, border control, and the investigation and prevention of crimes. Additionally, the Royal Guard is tasked with various ceremonial tasks and the protection of the High Queen
The professional head of the Royal Guard is the Chief Inspector-General, currently Charlotte Katrinsdottir, who is appointed by the High Queen on the advice of the relevant Minister of the Crown.
The Royal Guard is divided operationally into both geographic units and special purpose units usually led by an Inspector or Commander.

Independent Oversight Commission for the Royal Guard

The Independent Oversight Commission for the Royal Guard is the independent body established to investigate issues relating to use of force, Guardsman misconduct and other such complaints and mandatory investigations as assigned to it by law.
