Alios (/ˈæ.ljɒs/ Sabian: [ˈaɫjɔs]), officially the City of Alios (loš aliosinn) is the capital and largest city of the Kingdom of Sabia and Verona. Alongside the region of Gonn it forms part of the Southern Territories of the Sabioveronese claims, laying 4800 miles south of the claims in the Valtir, known as the Northern Territories. It has been the capital city of Sabia and Verona since its establishment on 25 August 2015, replacing Salisse as the Kingdom's administrative center.

The city is home to the the official residence of the Prime Minister; and the Daora Tairagao, the building where the Parliament and Supreme Court convene. Most of the city's landmarks are located in Darmosari, one of the city's two districts

History

Before the foundation of Alios, the capital and economic center of Sabia and Verona was the city of Salisse, located in the region of Sabia. Plans to move the capital surged in mid-2015, when the Haronos Plan was formed. Alios was founded by participants of stage 1 of the Haronos Plan, which first arrived in what is now Kotavari on 25 August 2015.[1] The city's name meant "silver" in Middle Sabian, referring to the River Plate. Shortly after its foundation, the Valtirian settlers first encountered the Alios natives, who thereafter became citizens of Sabia and Verona, embracing Pahunism and the Sabian culture and language. These citizens, alongside the new settlers, helped the newly founded city of Alios grow economically as the Kingdom's largest and most active city.

The city was originally part of the Alios-Capital region, which disbanded a few months after its creation due to its large size and the difficulties of its administration.[2] A large part of the city's territory was ceded to the new region of Gonn.

Geography

Districts

The city is divided into two districts: Darmosari and Kodesari. Darmosari, named after the Valtirian mythology god Darmo, is the most populated district, and the center of political and economic activity, housing the grounds of the national and local governments, the Tairagao (the meeting place of the Parliament and the Supreme Court) and the headquarters of the National Bank. Despite being the largest in size, Kodesari, named after Koda Karjasari, Marquise of Arasi, is the least populated of the districts. Formerly, the prefecture of Monesari was a district of Alios; since 2017 it is part of Gonn.

Politics

Alios is one of the two so-called "central regions" described in the national constitution, adopted in 2017. Citizens in central regions may vote in national elections and elect the members of the Parliament of Sabia and Verona; while citizens of the "autonomous regions" may not. All the central regions are in the Southern territories of the Kingdom: Alios and the region of Gonn. Because of this arrangement, citizens in the Northern (autonomous) regions are effectively barred from participating in national politics and count with no representation in national affairs.

The city itself is almost directly administered by the central government of the Kingdom, which relies on the Governor of Alios to look after the city's affairs. Originally, the Governor was known as the Governor of the Alios-Capital Region, and had control over all of the Southern Territories as they were united as part of the Alios-Capital Region. The current Governor is Andreina Rossini, elected in 2019.
