The Dimae is an officially recognized currency in United Trade International. The currency is set to become the official currency of the Empire of Ela'r'oech, Bushistan, the Republic of New Katy and the Republic of Kamore in September 2022. The currency began work in August 2022, with most designs being made by Charles Madgett after the invasion of Bushistan from the Democratic People's Republic of Carolina. The Elarian Trade Union was given polls throughout late August and early September asking if the member states would be okay with adopting a union-wide currency, similar to the European Union's Euro.

The Dimae was first officially printed on 1 September 2022 and was then traded and sold to Elarians the following day, for an exchange rate of 10 US Cents per 1 Dimae.

Characteristics

The Dimae features a randomized assortment of 'Elarian colors,' usually reddish, greenish, blueish, and yellowish or goldish. These colors, used in the Elarian flag - with the exception of green, however it is considered Elarian as it is Charles' favorite color - have shades all used in notes of the Dimae. The Dimae also features the amount - in lettering - of money that the note represents. It is complimented by the same, however being read horizontally, rather than vertically.

International notes

For the international banknotes of the Dimae, the Dimaes will feature the coat of arms of the specific micronation which they are printed for or shipped to. They will feature in the same spot as the Elarian coat of arms, being in the middle, Additionally, they will also be translucent just like the Elarian coat of arms.

Elarian notes

All Elarian banknotes also feature the coat of arms of Ela'r'oech. For the Đ1 and Đ1000 banknotes, it features the face and a bust of Charles Madgett, layered in above the coat of arms but below the horizontal listed amount of money the note is worth. Below his bust, the name 'CAROLUS' - 'Charles' in latin - is featured in blue. Below 'CAROLUS,' are the words 'This is legal tender issued by United Trade International.' To the side of the bust are 1s and 0s, reminiscent of binary code as they fit to outline the bust on it's left side.

Anti-Counterfeiting measures

The 1s and 0s on the side of the face and bust of Charles are also in a special color that - when printed by the banks - only shows in white light. This prevents counterfeiting for both the Đ1 and Đ1000 banknotes. Additionally, the coat of arms is colored in such a way that if anyone attempted to print it out, they would be much more noticeable in light, therefore proving it's counterfeit.

History

The Dimae was developed as a successor to the United Elarian Dollar. United Elarian Dollars were simply parade doubloons which were, in turn, a successor to the Elarian Stix. Stix were developed in May 2021, then retired in August of the same year. United Elarian Dollars would remain as the sole currency of the Kingdom of Ela'r'oech and even after when it became the Empire of Ela'r'oech.

Development

The Dimae was developed initially in late August 2022. The initial design was appreciated by Elarians, but as a whole it was voted to have the design changed before the official release, resulting in new designs featuring more anti-counterfeiting measures and the coat of arms of Ela'r'oech in the background. Additionally, it was decided to make the bills vertical, as it would be considered a nice design choice and more unique.

Recession and loss of value

In November 2022, the Dimae had stopped being used by many Alarians. Though it wasn't illegal, this led to a mass devaluation of the Dimae and a subsequent recession. This recession would lead to anxiety in the Elarian Stock Market, and many Elarian companies and businesses being forced to shut down. Interestingly, the stock market anxiety led to many selling off their stocks, which in turn brought the valuation of the currency back up for a short while, though this did not last long, nor was the increase in value extremely helpful to begin with.

Subsequent Series

Series Two was designed in November 2022, with its designs being revealed on 23 November 2022. It will start officially being accepted in Ela'r'oech in late 2022, likely December, and in LENS-ETU, specifically member states of the Elarian Trade Union, on 1 January 2023. The designs feature Elarian icons and leaders on the inverse. It is the first series to use an inverse and reverse. The reverse of Series Two bank notes include national symbols of the Empire. It will also be the first series to feature braille for the visually impaired. Series A is hypothetically going to feature designs of American icons, such as political leaders and influencers, if ever made.

Adoption by ETU member states

The first poll for the Elarian Trade Union saw 4 votes for the Dimae and 2 against, with 1 abstain. The second vote would get a 2 vote for and 3 against, with 2 abstain. It should be noted that the first member state to be for adopting it as a currency was the Empire of Ela'r'oech - which would be printing the banknotes - followed by Republic of New Katy. Bushistan has also agreed to start using the currency as their official one by mid-September 2022. This was not initially a kept promise, however Bushistan has now agreed to make it their currency after the 2022 recession. Additionally, the Second Republic of Kamore has also adopted it.

Bonds

Treasury bonds in Ela'r'oech, also known as simply bonds, are government securities issued by the Elarian Federal government that can be purchased, then over time becoming worth ten-times more than what they were purchased for. Bonds can be 'cashed out' at any time past 6 months after the initial purchasing date.
