The Flanrives, formally the Kingdom of the Flanrives (Portuguese: Reino dos Flanrives) is a constituent kingdom within the Kingdom of Eintrachtia. Located west of Queen Maud Land in East Antarctica, the Flanrivean coastline touches the Brunt Ice Shelf near the Waddell Sea. With the Fimbulheimen mountains to the west and Coats Land to the east. As an Eintrachtian dominion, the county of Gentoo is the closest Eintrachtian territory to mainland Flanrives. The Flanrives’ de facto capital region is Caslon, while its administrative centre depends on the location of parliamentary meetings and administration of governmental affairs. Thus, the headquarters of the Flanrivean Ministry of Foreign Affairs is commonly considered to be the seat of the government.

Since the discovery of the Antarctic continent between late 18th century and the 19th century, claims of sovereignty over the polar desert has been continued over decades and even centuries. From the beginning of the third millenium, micronational claims over Antarctica has been increasingly popularised. The Flanrives was a concept made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in late 2021 after the Concorde Revolution that caused the reconstruction of foreign approach by the government of Eintrachtia. This project was brought up by the nationalist regime in June 2023 which brought negative reputation to the concept, and also affected the foundational declaration in late August 2023. However, with the support of King John in the idea of forming a nominal personal union instead of directly incorporating the territory into Eintrachtian jurisdiction, more autonomy was permitted to the Flanrivean state and hence allowed its official foundation on 23 August 2023. The Dominion Act which secures the autonomy of the state was established in 21 September 2023.

The Flanrives is a member of the Eintrachtian Commonwealth. The Flanrives’ diplomatic affairs are semi-dependent on Eintrachtian jurisdiction. As an Eintrachtian royal domain, it shares monarchs and receives political support from the Eintrachtian government via a viceroy, the governor-general of the Flanrives. The viceroy also acts the head of the Council of Flanrivean Affairs, an organisational body under the Eintrachtian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

History

The territorial claims of the Flanrives disputes with Norwegian claims to the Antarctic continent, specifically Queen Maud Land, which was founded in an expedition in 1929. The Norwegian claims were expanded further while exploration continued in the 1930s.

The original proposal for a Flanrivean state intended to establish such a state on Berkner Island, which was then rejected by the parliament of Eintrachtia. In August 2023, a second proposal was put forward and passed, which included exact borders and arrangements for the government. This foundational event was recognised as the Foundational Day of the Flanrives. Despite having no constitution of its own, the Flanrives adopts the Constitution of Eintrachtia and uses the Dominion Act as its primary local constitutional document.

Government and politics

The government of the Flanrives is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy, with a hereditary monarch, a prime minister and a parliament. The head of state of the Flanrives is the monarch of Eintrachtia and the head of the Eintrachtian Commonwealth. The monarch is represented by a viceroy in the government and the parliament who is appointed by the monarch and mainly ensures the relations between the governments of the Flanrives and Eintrachtia. The prime minister is a democratically elected office who is head of government. Judicial laws from the Eintrachtian constitution apply to the Flanrives. The parliament is divided into the houses of aristocrats and commons, the former is represented by leaders of each province, and the lower house is represented by representatives of the people, an indefinite number of citizens elected every year to the chamber.

Executive

Monarch and the viceroy

The Flanrives is a member state of the Eintrachtian Commonwealth, as well as a dominion of the Kingdom of Eintrachtia, which according to Article I, Section II of the Concorde Declaration, the monarch of Eintrachtia also serves as head of state of the Flanrives. The monarch is represented by the viceroy in most occasions within the government and the parliament. The viceroy of the Flanrives is personally appointed by the monarch, and is the co-head of government.

Prime minister

The prime minister of the Flanrives is the co-head of government along with the viceroy. The office is directly elected by citizens of the state and ceremonially approved by the monarch. The prime minister also acts as speaker of the House of Commons, and in most occasions, leader of their parties.

Parliament

The Flanrivean parliament consists of two chambers, the House of Aristocrats and the House of Commons. Members of the House of Aristocrats are governors of each province, along with several provincial officials appointed by the governors. The House of Commons however, holds members of each political party, with 10 seats occupied by various parties elected by citizens.

During an election of a new prime minister, elections are held in the local council and the governor will put forward their decisions to the House of Aristocrats, which then will announce the results of the state-wide election.
