The Ojan Crisis is an ongoing low-level armed conflict between the Olovian-central government and the Mikaelist faction of the Phojam local gangsters in Ondernaming, which occurred since 24 November, 2023, following the demobilization of Olovian Youth militias at 17:09 PM (UTC+7) after the Northeastern Romansyah assault.

    Name

Following the tensions escalated further between both parties since the Northeastern Romansyah assault, the term "Ojan Crisis" became widely used for the crisis. Named after the nickname of Fhauzan Amrizal, a key figure in the conflict.

    Background

"In terms of religion and politics, I support Israel, my faction also will"

    — Mikaelist faction former chief Mikael Gabriel Rafael

The crisis began after when Olovian Youth militias were demobilized after a decisive assault on northeastern Romansyah on 24 November, 2023. The assault involved thirteen Olovian youth militias and five Mikaelist militias with some reinforcements, as well as several Ondernaming civilians who supported Israel on the ongoing 2023 Israel–Hamas war. Despite managing to maintain control of the area, the militias failed to capture the Fadil-Arit area.[1]

Two days later, Olovian sergeant Patir (last name unknown) accused Fhauzan Amrizal, a supporter of Israel, of making provocative remarks, allegedly stating "Palestine is a bitch." Fhauzan denied Patir's accusation, the incident escalated more tensions. Patir's accusation was then proved to be true on 7 December, 2023.

Initial 27 November 2023 attack and immediate ceasefire

On 25 November, 2023, Fhauzan Amrizal announced that a series of attacks were anticipated on 27 November, 2023, and claimed that Olovian involvement in Ondernaming would conclude as a result of the attacks. Fhauzal's announcement was viewed as a potential threat by the Olovian-central government, and was declared that Fhauzan Amrizal might lead a third mass conflict in Ondernaming, following the prior 2021-2023 pro-Islamist insurgency and the 2023 Ondernaming civil-conflict.[2]

However, on 27 November, 2023, at around 16:05 PM (UTC+7), the Olovian president Saleh A.H carried out an attack on Mikaelist militias in the northwestern Romansyah area, Ondernaming. In response, Mikaelist adjutant Putra Khairudin Akbar launched a counterattack. Fhauzan Amrizal was not present, and his attempt for series of attacks on Olovian soldiers did not occur.[2]

On the same day, at around 16:50 PM (UTC+7), Mikaelist adjutant Iban Rasya declared a ceasefire between both sides, Iban Rasya's declaration was later agreed by Olovian president Saleh A.H, which then led to a temporary ceasefire for at least eight days. Following the declaration, Saleh A.H commanded the Northeastern-Ondernaming Squad II/Yudis of the Olovian National Army (O.N.A) to conduct patrols in the Northeastern Ondernaming region, aimed at securing the region from any potential threats.[2]

    Small-scaled fighting on 29 November 2023

On 29 November, 2023, at around 15:26 PM (UTC+7), the Olovian president Saleh A.H, along with Olovian corporal Faaris Akran Pratama, took action on temporarily expelling several pro-Israel Fhauzan Amrizal supporters from Olovian-occupied Ondernaming areas, including Romansyah. During the expulsion, Mikaelist militia Ahmad Djalaluddin (also known as Ucep) was reported chanting "Long live Israel" while riding a motorcycle driven by a supporter named Wahyu (last name unknown).

Both Wahyu and Ucep were later captured by some Olovian militias at around 16:40 PM (UTC+7), the unidentified Wahyu claimed to be a supporter of Palestine and was forced to assist Ucep, the capture incident ignited a small-scale fighting between both Saleh A.H and Fhauzan Amrizal on northeastern Romanysah, Ondernaming, the fighting subsequently ended inconclusive due to the ceasefire implementation, some claimed Saleh A.H was victorious and some claimed neither sides won.

    Anti-Phojam vandalism in Northeastern Ondernaming

On 2 December, 2023, in response to the harassment of Saleh's family during the early stages of the 2023 Ondernaming civil conflict on April 18-19, 2023, and the Mikaelist vandalism on several walls in the Fadil-Arit area, Ondernaming on 6 November, 2023, which promoted anti-Saleh propaganda. Olovian soldiers from the Northeastern-Ondernaming Squad II/Yudis carried out an act of vandalism on walls in Northeastern Ondernaming, defacing surfaces adorned with pro-Phojam graffiti.

Mikaelist militias in discussion with Mikaelist adjutant Harits Fudhail Sopandi (light blue) about the crisis during ceasefire, on November 28, 2023.

On 4 December, 2023, at around 14:20 PM (UTC+7), the Olovian president Saleh A.H visited Northeastern Ondernaming to observe the vandalized walls. During the visit, he engaged in a game of carom billiards with Olovian sergeant Patir at a local Olovian military barrack.

End of ceasefire on 5 December 2023

On 5 December, 2023, the ceasefire officially concluded after the implementation process, which specified a duration of at least eight days. Mikaelist faction announced that they currently have no plans on attacking recently.

On the same day, at around 16:44 PM (UTC+7), Fhauzan Amrizal along with his supporters launched their "final" attack on the Olovian soldiers including Saleh A.H in Romansyah area, Ondernaming, the engagement ended at around 17:12 PM (UTC+7) with a resolution and Fhauzan Amrizal with his supporters officially withdrawing from the conflict. Fhauzan claimed that he was "never" a supporter of Israel nor was against Saleh until the prior Northeastern Romansyah assault.

On 6 December, 2023, at around 20:15 PM (UTC+7), Saleh A.H launched a small-scale attack on the Mikaelist militias in the Phojam area, Mikaelist-controlled Ondernaming. Mikaelist adjutant Harits Fudhail Sopandi was targeted during the attack. At around 17:06 PM (UTC+7), Fhauzan led a protest in Northwestern Romansyah, Ondernaming, initially focused on pro-Israel sentiments but escalated into a skirmish with Olovian soldiers, Mikaelist militias led by Fhauzan and Harits launched an attack on the Olovian soldiers, using stones and branches.

During the clash, Mikaelist militia Ahmad Djalaluddin (Ucep) provoked the Olovian side by stepping on their flag, resulting in an attack by three Olovian soldiers armed with D'cobra-branded AK-47 airsoft guns. Fhauzan Amrizal then started making provocative remarks shouting "Palestine is a bitch" and "Palestinians are pigs," confirming previous accusations by Olovian sergeant Patir.

Around 17:18 PM (UTC+7), despite the Mikaelist militias deciding to step back, Fhauzan continued attacking until confronted by Saleh A.H. During their confrontation, Fhauzan physically assaulted Saleh, who retaliated, and Fhauzan eventually retreated, accusing Saleh of insulting his parents.

Mikaelist adjutant Harits Fudhail Sopandi criticized Fhauzan for his actions, labeling him a "total coward" and accusing him of desperately defending Israel in the ongoing 2023 Israel–Hamas war, and stated that Fhauzan's attack should not have occurred.

Indonesian local resident intervention on 8 December 2023

Following the clash, on 8 December, 2023, several Indonesian local residents and one school guard within Andara 1 street, Pondok Labu sub-district, Cilandak district, Jakarta, Indonesia, took action, temporarily barring both Olovian soldiers and Mikaelist militias into entering the disputed Romansyah area, which is also technically an SD Negeri Pondok Labu 12 (Pondok Labu Public Elementary School 12 Morning) property area.

Some Indonesian residents requested the Ketua Rukun Tetangga (chair of the neighborhood association), the lowest Indonesian village administrative division, to take action in resolving the escalating conflict. On 12 December, 2023, Olovian major Bilal Nafi claimed that he is currently at trial.

On 15 December, 2023, Indonesian local residents within Andara 1 road eventually made a peace agreement with the Olovian president Saleh A.H, with terms stating that Romansyah would become a property of Indonesia, and a commitment made to prevent any certain separatist movements, which was considered "dividing the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia."

The Olovian Youth militias arrived at Ondernaming at around 4:28 PM (UTC+7), where they were encountered by Mikaelist militias led by Mikael Gabriel Rafael directly. He had been informed about the Mikaelist attack the day before and remained silent with no response, while the rest of the Mikaelist militias continued inciting violence. The Olovian Youth militias attempted to engage in combat but instead proposed a football match, which ended in a draw with a score of 5-5.

    Effects

Increase of anti-Christian and anti-atheist sentiment

In response, Olovian president Saleh A.H stated that the conflict "should not be seen as a religious conflict." Saleh also stated with that the Olovian National Army under the command of the Olovian National Military, has "actively" enlisted Christian soldiers into its ranks.

Some Mikaelist faction members have accused the Olovian-central government for promoting and fueling the sentiment to encourage both Olovian citizens and neighboring Indonesian residents to take action against the Phojam local gangsters. Olovian major Bilal Nafi asserted that the alleged-promoted anti-atheist sentiment is a "brutal" response for Phojam's anti-Arab sentiment.

It has also been reported that a number of Olovian soldiers engaged in the act of burning Phojam-owned stickers as an expression of both anti-Phojam sentiment and anti-atheist sentiment since 24 January, 2024.
