Basistha Rural is a constituency represented in the Lok Sabha, the unicameral legislature of Vishwamitra and is one of the 3 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state of Basistha, the other two being Basistha City and Basistha Central. The constituency was created in 2017 after Basistha was bifurcated from Beltola and granted statehood.
History
The constituency came into existence after the bifurcation of the state of Beltola in May 2017. The first election to the constituency was in July 2017 when the seat was won by Jemina Hazarika of the Friends Society Independent Party. In the 9th Lok Sabha, the seat was represented by Abhisekh Jha. The seat was again won by Jemina Hazarika in November 2018, 2019 and again in 2020. She served as a member of the 8th, 10th and 12th Lok Sabha. She briefly resigned as a member of the house in March 2021 after being appointed as Administrator of Basistha and was succeeded by Arnab Deka of the Friends Societal Congress who was elected in a bye-election.
In the 13th Lok Sabha, the constituency was represented by Joel Camurkar of the Royalist Party of Vishwamitra, however he resigned in August 2021. In the November 2021 general election to the 14th Lok Sabha, W. Pranit Singh of the National People's Congress was victorious and so was his party colleague Manggala Alif Prasetia in the 15th Lok Sabha.
