His first assignment was as the non-resident Ambassador to the Maritime Republic of The Damariscotta, a position to which he was appointed in May 2021. He continued to serve as the ambassador until July 2021.

Upon relinquishing the duties as the ambassador following the fall of The Damariscotta, he was appointed as the Grand Chamberlain of the Royal Household in July 2021 and has since then been serving in office.

Political career

Singh joined politics with the National People's Congress prior to the November 2021 general election. He was nominated as the party's candidate for the Basistha Rural constituency of the Lok Sabha from which he was elected unopposed to the 14th Lok Sabha.

Following his election to the Lok Sabha and owing to his close relationship with Prime Minister Farhaz Hazarika, he was appointed to the union council of ministers as a Minister of State with independent charge. He was appointed as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Sports and Youth Affairs with the additional charge as Minister of State for Home Affairs and the Prime Minister's Office on 22 November 2021. In a reshuffle of the union cabinet on 18 March 2023, he was shifted out of the Ministry of Social Welfare but continued to serve as the Minister of Federal Affairs and Administration.
