The Most Distinguished Order of the Maharaja Varuna Sriraya (Hindi: अति विशिष्ट दर्ज़ह महाराजा वरुण श्रीराय‎) is the fourth highest and junior-most order of chivalry of the Vishwamitran state of Purvanchal which was constituted on 12 February 2022 by Maharaja Varuna Sriraya to reward individuals for remarkable and personal services rendered to him. The order ranks below the Order of the Crown of Purvanchal.

History

The Most Distinguished Order of the Maharaja Varuna Sriraya was established on 12 February 2022 as a personal order of chivalry which shall be conferred to recognize the remarkable services rendered by individuals personally to Maharaja Varuna Sriraya and shall be conferred throughout his reign as the monarch of Purvanchal. At the time of its creation, it was the state's third highest order. However, on 1 December 2022, the Maharaja issued a royal decree which made it the junior-most conferrable order in the state.

Grades, styles, insignia, and precedence

Grades

The Order of the Maharaja Varuna Sriraya is conferred in two distinguished grades:

  • Knight Grand Companion or Darjah Utama Maharaja Varuna Sriraya - D.U.V.S., limited to regular 60 recipients
  • Knight Companion or Darjah Prathama Maharaja Varuna Sriraya - D.P.V.S.

Styles

All recipients of the order are entitled to bear pre-nominal honorary titles. All male recipients of the Knight Grand Companion or Darjah Utama Maharaja Varuna Sriraya bear the pre-nominal honorific of "Dato Utama" and the female recipients bear the honorific of "Datin Utama"; while the male recipients of the Knight Companion or Darjah Prathama Maharaja Varuna Sriraya bear the pre-nominal honorific of "Dato" and the female recipients bear the honorific of "Datin".

Insignia

Methods of wearing of the order
  • The badge of the order is an eight pointed star with three straight rays between each arm. In the centre, there is a blue disc topped by the royal cypher of Maharaja Varuna Sriraya. The badges of the two grades are slightly different.
    • Knight Grand Companion: has the eight pointed star in gold and the smaller arms in silver.
    • Knight Companion: has the eight pointed star in silver and the smaller arms in gold.
  • The ribbon is a navy blue background and on both edges are red stripes. In the centre, are red stripes (narrow) flanked by broad ones.
