The Minister in the Prime Minister's Office (Hindi: प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय में मंत्री), often the Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Prime Minister's Office is the minister in the Prime Minister's Office who is also a member of the union council of ministers. The minister is responsible to carry out specialised duties as directed to them from time to time by the Prime Minister and is the second most important person in the Prime Minister's Office after the Prime Minister themselves. The first Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Prime Minister's Office was Anirban Phatowali who was appointed on 11 April 2016 after the creation of the ministry by Prime Minister Varuna Sriraya. The current minister is Suryadeva Kapei who has been in-charge since 18 January 2023.

History

The position of the minister in the Prime Minister's Office was created on 11 April 2016 by prime minister Varuna Sriraya along with the ministerial positions in the President's and Vice President's Office. The first minister to serve was Anirban Phatowali who was appointed on 11 April 2016 and remained in office until his resignation on 13 November 2016 and was replaced by Abhiraj Kar. Bishakha Das holds the record of serving as the minister under various prime ministers. The current minister is Suryadeva Kapei who was appointed to replace Manggala Alif Prasetia on 18 January 2023.

Most of the ministers held the rank of a state minister with independent charge except for Bishakha Das during her tenure from June 2020 till January 2021, William Cooper, Rafe Burfield and Arthur Lacey-Scott who held the rank of a cabinet minister. Between December 2019 and April 2020 and again between November 2021 and March 2022, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office was the head of the ministry and did not held independent charge and cabinet rank.
