The State of Aeonia, simply referred to as Aeonia, was a state in the Concordian Republic. It was the first state to declare independence from Australia. It seceded alongside the New Concordia Federal District on 30 June 2021. It was located north and east of the New Concordia Federal District. It had no official leader, however control was dually exercised by Member for Aeonia, H Norman, and Mackenzie Arra, historic Governor of the state.

Aeonia had a deep history in the Concordian Republic, as the site of three regime changes, two secessions and one battle. It had also been a politically important state for nearly all the Concordian Republic's history.

History

Aeonia was founded on June 30, 2022, when it seceded from the Commonwealth of Australia alongside the New Concordia Federal District. It was immediately mapped at 189,500 square metres, a size it retained until September 2021. Following its founding, the state went quiet alongside the rest of the Republic. On 6 August, a new citizen joined the Concordian Republic. McKenzie Arra was granted honorary Governorship of Aeonia, something she would keep even through the Guardsman's War. Aeonia was a factor in the war, as it was by far the largest state. Following the conclusion of the Guardsman's War on 29 August, the State of Aeonia seceded again from Australia.

Second Phase

The Second Phase began on 6 September 2021, bringing Aeonia officially into the hands of McKenzie Arra. On 9 September 2021, the State of Aeonia was granted what was once the territories of Carrolinux. This boosted its size to 268,000 square metres, alongside bringing many new features including plains and permanent rivers. On 21 November 2022, the Aeonian War was sparked by a disgruntled McKenzie. She seceded from the Concordian Republic, forming a Republic of Aeonia. This was a secession of all Aeonian land. The area was reclaimed for the Concordian Republic a few minutes later, however a second secession could not be prevented. Eventually, McKenzie moved from her territory in the Republic of Aeonia to the New Concordia Federal District, where she placed her new capital. However, a quick pushback resulted in her loss. Eventually, the Treaty of Aeonia was signed by both parties, bringing the war to a formal end. This also, however, removed Arra from the seat of power.

Post-Arra period

Following the expulsion of Arra, Aeonia went quiet. 17 January 2022, was the next major event for the state. This was a redrawing of borders, extending the west further down the Canning River. The Lower Banks Federal District was also created, the first inter-district border in the Concordian Republic. The District Link was also set up as a major road, linking the Lower Banks and Western Aeonia. On 14 February, the government introduced new COVID-19 restrictions. These meant the closure to the Concordian public of some structures and attractions, including some notable spots in Aeonia. These were imposed after 62 cases were detected in Western Australia. Cases have since neared 10,000 a day. Some of these restrictions were later lifted, namely a vaccination mandate and the sign-in system. These were lifted on 11 March. On 17 March, the President of the Concordian Republic called an election for April, which involved voting on a new Governor of Aeonia. Finally, on 27 March, the National Cabinet sat for the first time. It was there that some extremely significant legislation was passed.

Splitting of Aeonia

The Aeonian Expansion Act 2022 was passed through National Cabinet on 27 March 2022. It was passed 2-0 (1 abstaining). It enabled Aeonia to to expand up into the hills, acquiring 2,231,500 square metres of primarily bushland. Many roads ran through the new territory, linking all sides of the border. The act also meant Western Aeonia would split from the east. It merged with the Lower Banks Federal District to form the New Aeonia Federal District. This is governed by the Mayor of the New Concordia Federal District. The new Aeonia was explored rapidly, as Contour Channel Road, running north-south through the centre, was identified as a major road. A documentary crew was reportedly working on a documentary about it, however no more has been heard from that project since May 2022. The election started on March 31, 2022. Immediately, 20% of the vote went to former Governor Arra. However, the election dragged on, finally concluding on 15 April with Mackenzie Arra's victory.

Government

The state of Aeonia had no defined system of government. Following the Second Republic reforms, the people of a state were given a federal right to determine their own system of government. This did, however, mean there could not have been a system of government until the people of Aeonia had been polled. Provisionally, there were two supreme figures in the government space, who were the Member of Aeonia and the former Governor of Aeonia, being General H Norman and Mackenzie Arra respectively. Aeonia worked under the Basic Law of the Concordian Republic and the Treaty of Kersika, which was eventually supposed to be held with an independent Aeonian constitution.

Military

The state of Aeonia was overseen by the Concordian National Guard, a national military police force. The Kersik-based National Guard were easily able to access most of Aeonia, so there was not much of a need for an independent Aeonian police force. The National Guard ensured the security of the Concordian Republic's borders, and ensured the law is not broken internally.

Economy

Much like the broader Concordian Republic, Aeonia had a resources-based economy. Forefront amongst these was the export of raw shale. The shale was initially thought to be slate, however following surveys it was determined to be the softer, muddier shale. Found commonly throughout the upper part of the state's south-west, the shale was refined and sold by Aeonia Slate. Aeonia Slate was a private company, listed on the Concordian Stock Exchange, however included the former Governor of Aeonia amongst its board. Much of its profits were dedicated to projects in Aeonia.

Alsann

Following the creation of the Alsann Republic on 8 September 2022, Aeonia transitioned to being a state in Alsann. When the Concordian Republic dissolved on 23 September 2022, Aeonia was still officially regarded as part of it. It is now the largest state in Alsann.
