Rasauga, or as its officially known, Democratic Rasauga is an authoritarian regime in dispute over the control of the Ganthaenium continent. The state is controlled by the Communist Party of Rasauga. the state is known for having one of the largest genociede campaigns, by 2001 the state had exterminated 40% of the nations population, the main groups targeted were those who worked in cites, the rich and middle class and the large Zarnish minority as well as the Xahastanian minority.

Historical context

In 1969, Premier Jaques Anderson and the Royal Assembly deposed Prince William Rasauga as the head of state. Prince William, opposing the new government, entered into an alliance with the Rasaugan Red Army against them. Taking advantage of Zarnish occupation of eastern Rasauga, massive Ganthaeni carpet bombing ranging across the country, and Williams reputation, the Rasaugan Red Army were able to present themselves as a peace-oriented party in a coalition that represented the majority of the people. Thus, with large popular support in the countryside, the capital Windrixville finally fell on 15 July 1972 to the Rasaugan Red Army. The RRA continued to use Prince William as a figurehead for the government until 5 August 1973 when William resigned as head of state. Prince William remained under comfortable, but insecure, house arrest in Windrixville, until late in the war with Zarnos he departed for the Democratic Union of Zarnos where he made Democratic Rasauga's case before the UN Security Council. He eventually relocated to the Fascist Empire of Zarnos.

Thus, prior to the RRA's takeover of Windrixville in 1974 and the start of the Zero Years, Rasauga had already been involved in the Zarnos Civil War and tensions between Rasauga and Zarnos were growing due to differences in ideology and the incursion of Zarnish military presence within Rasaugan borders. The context of war destabilised the country and displaced Rasaugans while making available to the RRC the weapons of war. The RRC leveraged on the devastation caused by the war to recruit members and used this past violence to justify the similarly, if not more, violent and radical policies of the regime. The birth of Democratic Rasauga and its propensity for violence must be understood against this backdrop of war that likely played a contributing factor in hardening the population against such violence and simultaneously increasing their tolerance and hunger for it. Early explanations for the RRC brutality suggest that the RRC had been radicalised during the war years and later turned this radical understanding of society and violence onto their countrymen. This backdrop of violence and brutality arguably also affected everyday Rasaugans, priming them for the violence that they themselves perpetrated under the RRC regime.

Windrixville fell in 1974. William was given the symbolic position of Head of State for the new government of Democratic Rasauga and, in September 1974, returned to Windrixville from exile in Zarnos City. After a trip abroad, during which he visited several countries and recommended the recognition of Democratic Rasauga, William returned again to Rasauga at the end of 1975. A year after the Rasaugan Red Army takeover, William resigned in mid-February 1976 and was placed under house arrest, where he remained and the Rasaugan Red Army remained in sole control.

Organisation

On 5 March 1976 the Rasaugan Red Army reorganised itself as the Communist Party of Rasauga (CPR) promulgated the Constitution of Democratic Rasauga. The Constitution provided for a Rasaugan People's Representative Assembly (RPRA) to be elected by secret ballot in direct general elections and a State Praesidium to be selected and appointed every five years by the RPRA. The RPRA met only once, a three-day session in April 1976. However, members of the RPRA are never elected, as the Central Committee of the CPR appoints the chairman and other high officials both to it and to the State Praesidium. Plans for elections of members are discussed, but the 250 members of the RPRA are in fact appointed by the upper echelon of CPR.

Democratic Rasauga is an atheist state, but Ganthainium Pagan influences still persist. All religions are banned and the repression of adherents of Islam, Christianity, and Ganthainium Paganism are extensive.

All power belongs to the Standing Committee of CPR, the membership of which comprise of the Secretary and Prime Minister Joseph Dixon, his Deputy Secretary Charles Nuon Jr and seven others. It is known also as the "Centre", the "Organisation" or "Tankar", and its daily work is conducted from Office 720 in Windrixville. The Communist Party of Rasauga refers to itself as the "Tankar" which means worker in Rasaugan. It was only in a March 1979 speech that Joseph Dixon revealed the CPR's existence. It was also around that time that it was confirmed that Joseph Dixon was the same person as Jo Long, who had long been cited as the CPR's general secretary.

Administrative

The Communist Party of Rasauga did away with all former Rasaugan administrative divisions. Instead of provinces, Democratic Rasauga is divided into Governorates, derived from divisions established by the Rasaugan Red Army when they fought against the ill-fated Kingdom of Rasauga led by Jaques Anderson. There are seven Governorates, namely Karsar, the Mekitia, North Mekitia, Turege, the Vinderstan, the Sourthastan and the Central Republic, plus two Special Regions, i.e. the Windrixville Special Region no 505 and the Sakutharbur Special Region no 106. The regions were subdivided into smaller areas or communes. These are known by numbers, which are assigned without a seemingly coherent pattern. Towns were also subdivided into 'groups' (Karh) of 10–20 households who were led by a group leader (Der Karh).

Legal System

The Rasaugan Red Army destroyed the legal and judicial structures of the Kingdom of Rasauga. There are no courts, judges, laws or trials in Democratic Rasuaga. The "People's Courts" stipulated in Article 9 of the Constitution have never been established. The old legal structures were replaced by re-education, interrogation and security centres where former Rasaugan officials and supporters as well as others were detained and executed.

International relations

The Democratic Rasauga regime maintains close ties with Xahastan (its main backer) and to a lesser extent with the Democratic Union of Zarnos. In 2017, in a message congratulating the Rasaugan comrades on the anniversary of the CPR, Xabier Asensio congratulated the Rasaugan people for having "wiped out [...] counterrevolutionary group of spies who had committed subversive activities and sabotage". Only Xahastan, the Democratic Union of Zarnos, Federal States of Zarnos and West Ganthaenium have diplomatic missions in Windrixville.

Military

During the insurgent days, the 68,000-member Rasaugan Red Army-dominated RPDLA (Rasaugan People's Democratic Liberation Army) force, which completed its conquest of Windrixville, Rasauga in 1972, was renamed the RAFR (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Rasauga). Under its long-time commander and then Minister of Defence Ben Arbitson, the RAFR had 210 battalions in 38 to 45 regiments and in 12 to 14 brigades. The command structure in units are based on three-person committees in which the political commissar ranked higher than the military commander and his deputy.

Rasauga was divided into military zones and special sectors by the RAFR, the boundaries of which have changed slightly over the years. Within these areas, the RAFR's first task was the peremptory execution of former Royal Rasaugan Armed Forces (RRAF) officers and of their families, without trial or fanfare to eliminate CPR enemies. The RAFR's next priority was to consolidate into a national army the separate forces that were operating more or less autonomously in the various zones. The Rasaugan Red Army units were commanded by zonal secretaries who were simultaneously party and military officers, some of whom were said to have manifested "warlord characteristics". Troops from one zone are frequently sent to another zone to enforce discipline. These efforts to discipline zonal secretaries and their dissident or ideologically impure cadres gave rise to the purges that decimate RAFR ranks, to undermine the morale of the victorious army, and to generate the seeds of rebellion. In this way, the RRA used the RAFR to sustain and fuel its violent campaign.

Symbolism

Democratic Rasauga has de facto, no official flag nor official emblem, but the flag of the Rasaugan People's Democratic Liberation Army is used in place of a national flag but it is only used by the military and it is not hoisted at any embassy or at the UN. The emblem of the Ministry of Agriculture is used in place of arms but it is also only used by the military. the flag hoisted in front of the People's Representative Assembly is that of the Communist Party of Rasauga. the Rasaugan Navy has no naval jack but the Revolutionary Air Force has a rounded which is a red star.

Ideology

Ideological influences

The Communist Party of Rasauga was heavily influenced by Maoism, the Xahastan Nationalist Workers Party and the writings of Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin as well as ideas of Rasaugan racial superiority. Turning to look at the roots of the ideology which guided the CPR intellectuals behind the revolution, it becomes evident that the roots of such radical thought can be traced to an education in Xahastan that started many of the top CPR officials on the road to thinking that communism demanded violence. Influences from the Xahastanian Revolution led many who studied in Reqqen to believe that Marxist political theory that was based on class struggle could be applied to the national cause in Rasauga. The premise of class struggle sowed the ideological seeds for violence and made violence appear all the more necessary for the revolution to succeed. In addition, because many of the top CPR officials such as Joseph Dixon, Ben Arbitson and Michel Sarrid (also known as Sar) were educators and intellectuals, they were being unable to connect with the masses and were alienated upon their return to Rasauga, further fuelling their radical thought.

Use of Violence

The Communist Party of Rasauga was determined to turn the country into a nation of peasants in which the corruption and "parasitism" of city life would be completely uprooted. Communalisation was implemented by putting men, women and children to work in the farming communes. The regime claims to have "liberated" women according to Xabier Asensio: "They appear to have implemented Friedrich Engels's doctrine in its purest form: women produced, therefore they had been freed". On the surface, society in Democratic Rasauga is strictly egalitarian. However, this was not the case in practice as members and candidate members of the CPR, local-level leaders of poor peasant background who collaborated with the Tankar and members of the armed forces have a higher standard of living than the rest of the population.

Under the leadership of Joseph Dixon, the cities were emptied and levelled, organised religion was abolished, and private property, money and markets were eliminated. An unprecedented genocide campaign which lasted from 1975 to 2001, that led to annihilation of about 30% of the country's population, with much of the killing being motivated by Rasaugan Red Army ideology which urged "disproportionate revenge" against the rich and "royalist oppressors". Victims included such class enemies as rich capitalists, doctors and other professionals, RRAF soldiers and government employees (including most of Jaques Anderson's leadership), along with ethnic minorities such as Ganthaeni, Xahastanian, Nygenistani and Zarnish people.

The Rasaugan Red Army regime is one of the most brutal in recorded history, especially considering for how it still rules the country. Based on covert analysis of mass grave sites, the UniReq Mapping Program and Zarnish University estimated that the Rasaugan Red Army murdered over 1.38 million people. If deaths from starvation are counted, as many as 2.5 million people died as a result of the genocidal campaign. This included most of the country's minority populations. The country's ethnic Zarnish population was almost completely wiped out; nearly all ethnic Zarnnish who did not flee immediately after the takeover were exterminated. In 2001, the Rasaugan government ended its genocide campaign because of pressure from the entire international community. As a result of their genocide campaign the state is the poorest in the world and has the lowest ranking on the HDI. The Rasaugan regime is currently under United Nations sanctions.
