Originally consisting of four branches, the Fontasian Royal Army, Fontasian Royal Navy, Fontasian Royal Air Force and the Fontasian Royal Cybersecurity Forces, all branches were merged to form one cohesive military force that was specialized in ground, naval, aeronautic and cyberdefense operations. The merge occurred on 12 August 2022 to increase military flexibility and adaptability for particular situations.

Consisting of 15 soldiers during its peak, the Fontasian Defense Forces was considered one of the most advanced and well-equipped military forces in the Assemblic Sector.

Fontasian Military History

Pre-Foundation (2004-2015)

There was evidence found across the Corrigith Forest in central Fontasia that either small or widespread Airsoft weapon battles occurred between the Rennite, Jaxite and possibly another unidentified group from approximately 2007 to 2010.

The Crash Site, a small ditch along a trail near the former Fort Basepoint that had metal sheets and sleeping bags inside of it was discovered by the Corrigith Expedition in 2016. Airsoft pellets were discovered in the soil of the Revolutionary Square Circle in 2017. Finally, the Monolith Mask, a damaged abandoned airsoft mask was found at the Monoliths along the same trail as the Crash Site in 2018. These major pieces of evidence, alongside the destroyed Rennograd and Owenopolis sites made Assemblian historians believe there was widespread conflict in the Corrigith Forest at that time.

The theorized "Corrigithian War" was believed to be the only major conflict in the Fontum area up until the Ritundic Invasion of 2015. In the period after the proposed war took place, there were numerous small skirmishes at Soroba in northwestern Fontum, commonly using crab apples as a projectile weapon between groups of locals.

Early Assemblian militaries (2015-2017)

The first organized Assemblian military force began after the end of the Fontasian Revolution of 2015, when the Fontasian Provisional Government organized groups of revolutionaries into "Assembles." These groups were tasked at conquering more land or defending the newly established Fontasian territories in Assemblia. The first battle of the Assembles was at Amsters when an Assemble was tasked at conquering Amstria. The 3-hour battle involving NERF weapons ended in Fontasian victory, allowing the Provisional Government to conquer half of Northern Assemblia.

After the establishment of the Assemblic Empire in August 2015, the Assemblic Imperial Military was officially established, with only one branch, the Assemblic Imperial Army. The AIA fought alongside the Tigerians in small sabotage operations during the Cilomorian War. The first Assemblic Imperial Military was abolished after the Fall of '16 in June 2016. Its soldiers however, after a month-long collapse reorganized into the Fontasian Imperial Army, and they proceeded to reconquer the lost Assemblian lands, reforming in the Second Assemblic Empire. At this time, the Assemblic Imperial Military added the Assemblic Imperial Navy as a branch, and an elite unit known as the Assemblic Imperial Special Operations Forces (AISOF). The elite unit was utilized for particularized missions, such as in the snow or amphibian operations. The AIA fought the Jaxite Tribe during the First Hexan War in early 2017, being defeated at the Battle of Fort Basepoint but days later reclaiming the fort. At this time, the Assemblian military began emphasizing recruitment across the Empire. The AIA fought against local Mappalian guerilla militants in the Mappal Revolt. The Assemblian Civil War was the result of a mutiny of units of soldiers across the Assemblic Empire, and both sides, both Imperial and Republican fought using the same weaponry. The first naval battle in Assemblian history took place at Gaers, and it started the civil war on 21 June 2017. During the civil war, several battles took place in Gaers, Fontum and Lewisport. The AIM was victorious at the Battle of Soroba on 10 July 2017, ending the civil war.

The months after saw the establishment of the Assemblic Imperial Air Force, or AIAF using drones. The AIA participated in the Second Hexan War, fought in Fall 2017. At this time, the AIM reached around 20 members enlisted, the highest military personnel size in all of Assemblian history. AIA repulsed several attacks on Revolutionary Square the the raid of the Conorian Palace. After a ceasefire with the Hexans was agreed upon, the AIM rapidly began training its soldiers and establishing more forts and military complexes across the Empire. Three major training exercises occurred between November 2017 and February 2018. It was at this time the Assemblian military was most powerful. The AIA crushed the remnants of the Hexan tribe at the Battle of the Blizzard on 18 March 2018, ending the Hexan Wars and securing Fontasian hegemony over all of Fontasia. The discovery of the Empire of the Fleetwoods, lead by the Field Marshal of the AIM lead to more military advances. In June 2018 a joint training exercise happened with the armed forces of the Tigerian Confederation as well as the Fletovian armed forces. Another exercise happened in July with the Fletovian armed forces as well, including naval drills.

Decline (2017-2022)

Into late 2018, the AIM suffered a decline of membership. An arsenal restocks took place, replacing some of the generic NERF weapons with modernized and more effective Rival NERF weapons. The AIM was rebranded as the Paxemian Armed Forces (PAF) after the collapse of the 3rd Assemblic Empire and changeover to the Panemist Assemblian regime. However, after Flanovian forces liberated Fontum in the Paxemo-Hudsennian War, the AIM was re-established and proceeded to reconquer Assemblia and her colonies, establishing the 4th Assemblic Empire. By now the Assemblian military was depleted and lacking troops as the government shifted away from war to politics and cultural development. Small clashes across Assemblia occurred against rebelling peoples, but no major battles took place.

In early 2019, the AIM tested a baking-soda vinegar rocket, that launched only a few inches off the ground. After the deterioration and inevitable collapse of the 4th Assemblic Empire, the AIM was disbanded. Almost all of the Imperial Arsenal was disposed of. Small groups of mercenaries formed in wake of the collapse and swore loyalty to the present Fletovian colonial administration. The former Emperor of Assemblia became a general in the Fletovian armed forces which inherited most Assemblian military equipment. The Blue Revolution of summer 2019 was aided with refurbished AIAF drones.

After the establishment of the Assemblic Federation, Assemblic Federal Military (AFM) was founded, which inherited the branches of the old empires. The AFM was extremely weak, with very few active-duty soldiers in its ranks. There was a small arsenal restock which retired the RIVAL weaponry and re-introduced some original weapons back into the military occurred. The establishment of the Assemblic Imperium saw little change in the military, except the re-naming back to the Assemblic Imperial Military. Another rocket was tested, this time using pressurized water. The rocket launched around six feet in the air. The Third Assemblic Civil War was once again fought against mutinied soldiers' ad pro-government supporters. In August 2020, a small attack occurred in Frasem between AIM police troops and a local group, which was a major embarassment due to the AIM soldiers retreating. In Fall 2020, the Phrocian War was almost an entirely fake war, to promote Assemblian nationalism which had been depleted since the Third Civil War. In 2021, despite the monetary influx of the establishment of the Centropolis Trading Post, little was done to improve the armed forces. Very little except a brief ownership of sailing boats for the AIN occurred in 2021. In August the first combustion fuel engine rocket, Udayaprakash-1 was launched from Northan. After the re-establishment of the Assemblic Federation, the AIM was renamed to the Assemblic Defense Forces (ADF) which inherited the same branches as the old empires as well. In fall of 2021, the Black Autumn occurred, which saw widespread revolts occur across Assemblia. In late October, Operation Carmagnole was initiated to retake Cappadania from the Cappadanian National Liberation Army (CNLA). The last strategic military battle in Assemblian Imperial history occurred at the Battle of Bolues Forest on 31 October 2021, which saw the defeat of the CNLA by the ADF in a pyrrhic victory. The Battle of the Bolues was widely considered as the point the Assemblian Imperial military ceased to perform. In November 2021, the first cyberwar occurred between Assemblia and Almendria, leading to the entrance of Assemblian cyberwarfare that continues to be utilized to this day.

Another Udayaprakash rocket was launched from Dobrok in late December 2021. In 2022 very little occurred before the collapse of the Second Assemblic Federation. During the month period before the establishment of the Kingdom of Fontasia, various invasions lead by ADF remnants occurred across Assemblia. These groups participated in the Dilu War. The remnants agreed to unite, forming the Kingdom of Fontasia on 1 March 2022.

Fontasian Defense Forces (2022-2023)

Immediately after the establishment of the Kingdom of Fontasia, the Fontasian Defense Forces (FDF) was established. Consisting of the Fontasian Royal Army (FRA), Fontasian Royal Navy (FRN), Fontasian Royal Air Force (FRAF) and the Fontasian Cybersecurity Force (FCSF). Modeled off the Second Assemblic Federation, the military was equipped with pre-collapse weaponry inherited from the Assemblic Federation. The first major goal of the FDF was to revitalize Fontasian military culture with the foundation of the Fontasian Order, a mercenary force tasked with crusading regions. FDF forces occupied Dilu Island in late April 2022, securing Fontasian hegemony over Zeprana after the aftermath of the Dilu War. The FDF was stagnant until Summer 2022 when the first new military weapons bought in nearly four years were purchased, them being the SRB-400 Gel rifle, that has full-auto and single firing settings. The SRB-400 was a viable alternative to NERF weapons, but without the security risks of an Airsoft weapon. On 12 August 2022, the Phaeton-13 Mobile Projectile Launcher was successfully tested, becoming the artillery weapon of choice by the FDF. Hours later, the four branches of the FDF merged into one single force for enhanced adaptability for particularized missions. A few weeks after, FDF forces were mobilized to invade Feildstone Territory, a claimed area near the Fontasian border by Zeprana. However, the invasion was called off due to peace talks.

On 3 September however, the invasion of Feildstone Territory occurred after recent volatile interactions with Zeprana. FDF forces invaded the territory in less than 15 minutes and faced no Zepranan resistance. Fontasia claimed the region hours later.

In early November 2022, the Fontasian Defense Forces invaded the Buddie Union during the Orkar Crisis, occupying several small settlements with no resistance. The war ended in a Fontasian victory.

On 2 June 2023, the FDF was abolished following the complete abandonment of Fontasia by Conor I, and his departure from the micronational community as a whole.

Conscription Policies

The Fontasian Defense Forces was a volunteer army, made of irregular citizens of the Kingdom of Fontasia with limited training. This "militia system" dated back to the Fontasian Provisional Government in 2015. The recruitment range was between 12–18 years old.

Weaponry

The FDF had various types of weaponry for different scenarios and missions. The FDF was known to use the extremely outdated Imperial NERF Arsenal, however these weapons were rarely used. Prior to its dissolution, the FDF owned one SRB-400 gel rifle, a Phaeton-13 Projectile Launcher, a few spears, a drone, a small fleet of bicycles used for transportation in both Fontum and Lewisport, and two kayaks. For specialized winter operations the FDF had two sleds. The FDF had hopes of greatly expanding its arsenal of weaponry in the future, with the purchase of a few more SRB-400s, more Udayaprakash rockets and the construction of several Phaeton-13 cannons. This was never accomplished.

Command Structure

The Fontasian Defense Forces was divided into three principal units, the Assemblian Regiment, which was the militia for the Assemblian Regions of Fontasia, the Northern Regiment, which was the militia for the Governorates of Dobrok, Salicia, Rye and Cullenbor and the Southern Regiment, the militia for Lewisia and Imperial Beach. There were eight commanders in the Fontasian Defense Forces, the highest being the Supreme Commander, which was the King of Fontasia. The second highest was the King's chief advisor, which held the rank of Field Marshal of the FDF.

Ranks of the Fontasian Defense Forces prior to its dissolution in 2023:
Rank: Name:
Supreme Commander King Conor I
Field Marshal T.M.
General Jasper Salveaux
Colonel Joseph Montgomery
Lieutenant Colonel E.M.
First Lieutenant N.P.
Second Lieutenant R.N.
Corporal Henry W.

The King could appoint and depose commanders to a different rank at whatever time needed.

Police

The FDF acted as the police force of the Kingdom of Fontasia as well. The FDF could also be utilized in emergency situations or disasters that happened in Fontasia for recovery aid.

In his campaigns, Praetor Joseph Montgomery promised to end the system of military policing, and create an official police force for Fontasia. Unfortunately, no acts were ever passed by his administration to do so.

Military Awards and Honors

The FDF had several awards and honors for bravery and valiant combat. They are ranked by highest value below.

  1. Order of the Corrigithian Sun (OCS): given to soldiers of great prestige as heroes of war.
  2. Order of the High Fields (OHF): given to soldiers with outstanding performance in land-based operations.
  3. Order of the Crocus (OC): given to soldiers with outstanding performance in amphibian-based or naval-based operations.
  4. Medal of the Cyberdefense (MCD): given to soldiers with outstanding performance in cyber-based operations.
  5. Badge of the Revolutionaries (BR): presented to heroes of justifiable revolution.
  6. Medal of Supreme Loyalty (MSL): presented to soldiers or people who have shown great respect and loyalty to the King and Fontasia.

Awards and honors were usually presented to soldiers every year on the founding date of the Kingdom of Fontasia, March 1.

Militias

During its existence, the Fontasian Defense Forces was known to permit private and regional militias to be formed in difficult-to-defend regions of Fontasia. A few examples of these militias include:

  • Blue Oak Militia: militia for the Fontasian Governorate of Blue Oak, formed on 5 December 2022 in reaction to Turtle Island dispute.
  • Trasonan Guard: militia for the Fontasian Protectorate of Trasona, formed on 24 December 2022 in reaction to rising tensions between Scynja and Dairajistan.
