The Orkar Crisis, also known as the Fontaso-Buddian War or occasionally in the Kingdom of Fontasia as the Second Phrocian War or the Buddie Union Special Military Operation was an armed conflict between the Kingdom of Fontasia and the Buddie Union. It began on 1 November 2022 and lasted a total of 5 days.

The buildup to the conflict began as far back as May 2022 in the Kingdom of Fontasia, where repeated attempts were made to invade or peacefully subjugate the Buddie Union via territorial agreements. Due to the lack of activity and perceived dormancy of the Buddie Union, the Kingdom of Fontasia began claiming Buddian territory without any resistance. However, towards the end of summer 2022, the Fontasian government agreed that action must be taken in a short period to prevent the Buddie Union from regaining regional influence.

The Kingdom of Fontasia officially declared war on the Buddie Union on 1 November 2022, however it had broken ties and ordered a mass mobilization of military forces on 28 October 2022.

The conflict was widely seen as the culmination of the Fontasian irredentist movement known as the Greater Fontasia concept.

    Timeline

Assemblian contact with Buddie Union and Division of Assemblia (February-March 2022)

In late February 2022, the group that would become the Kingdom of Fontasia and the government of the Buddie Union officially made contact. During that time, the Buddie Union claimed most of Assemblia Proper, which greatly fascinated the Assemblians but also greatly concerned them. An agreement was made to divide Assemblia along a border that was known as the Cedar Line. This agreement gave the Buddie Union most of southeastern Assemblia as well as portions of the Tarcellia region of the Corrigith Forest, the Orkar Corridor and Bahovia, all natively inhabited by the Fontasian people. The agreement allowed for free trade and travel into each country.

After the Kingdom of Fontasia was formally established on 1 March 2022, an intense nationalist longing for ethnically Fontasian territories arose in the newly formed Kingdom, however the wave of nationalism slowly dissipated as ties between the Buddie Union and Fontasia improved.

May Imperative and Fontasian occupation of Tarcellia (May-July 2022)

Months following the agreement, activity in the Buddie Union dwindled as a serious decline occurred in the country. The Fontasians, albeit being Buddian allies wanted to take advantage of this weakness.

The Fontasian Supreme Directorate was drafted a proposal to begin a two-phase operation to retake lost Fontasian territories and reintegrate them into Fontasia, in what was known as the May Imperative. The imperative included a plan to first use peaceful territorial treaties and pressure the Buddie Union into giving up various territories. The usage of military force in the plan was used as a last resort.

The May Imperative was vetoed by the King of Fontasia, the first usage of the Royal Veto in Fontasian history. The King feared upsetting the Buddian government or causing a major New England conflict, as the memory of the Dilu War still remained dominant in the minds of the Fontasian people.

The Fontasian government for a few months lacked interest in confronting the issue until July 2022, when the Fontasian Royal government released a new territorial map of Fontasia. The map blatantly rejected the borders of the Cedar Line agreed upon in the Assemblian Division Treaty, giving Fontasia de facto Buddian territories without alerting the Buddie Union.

    Pre-war Planning (September-October 2022)

As the year progressed, it became more apparent in Fontasian government once more that the Buddie Union's Fontasian-dominated lands must be reunited. In September, the original leader of the Buddie Union, who reigned for seven years officially resigned, handing the Buddie Union's administration to a lesser known faction. This prompted the Fontasians to pressure the Buddians into some sort of peaceful agreement, which failed. On 3 October 2022, the Fontasian government sent an ultimatum to cede most of Buddian territory in Assemblia. The ultimatum was rejected, and the Fontasian government agreed it wasn't prepared to invade yet. Soon after the Fontasian government began planning the invasion of the Buddie Union, focusing on retaking Tarcellia, Orkar, Bahovia and some more territories in the east. The invasion would be known first as Operation Sunrise, in homage of the Assemblian invasion of the Phrocian Khanate, a southern enemy known as Operation Nightfall. The plan developed and it was eventually changed to Operation Trebuchet.

Beginning on 21 October, the Fontasian government begin to gather nationalist spirits and began to spread anti-Buddian propaganda to garner support for an invasion. A week later, on 27 October the Fontasian government ordered a general mobilization of all Fontasian Defense Forces units in Assemblia. A few hours later, the Kingdom of Fontasia officially broke ties with the Buddie Union. It was at this point that invasion of the Buddie Union became imminent. On 28 October, the Kingdom of Bristolia declared diplomatic support for Fontasia, and granted troop mobility permissions through its territory.

    Orkar Crisis (1 November 2022-5 November 2022)

On 31 October 2022, the Fontasian government created a false narrative that Fontasians in Orkar were not being permitted to leave Buddian territory, prompting the Kingdom of Fontasia to formally declare war on 1 November 2022 at 12:00 AM EST. The Third Assemblic Federation also declared war following the Fontasian declaration of war. The Empire of Meritia and eventually the Republic of Roscamistan declared diplomatic support hours later. The first day of the war was expected to have a small incursion in Buddian Centropolis, however it was postponed to the following day.

Occupation of Buddian Centropolis (2 November 2022)

A day after the war initiated, a small occupation took place in the far eastern part of Assemblian Fontasia, where Fontasian forces occupied a small town that was east of the Cedar Line, known only as Buddian Centropolis. At 2:30 PM EST, Fontasian Defense Force troops began their march from the Fontasian city of Isovo east to Centropolis. They stopped in Centropolis for a few minutes and then proceeded east. At 2:37 PM EST the Fontasian troops crossed the Buddie Union border and entered Buddian Centropolis, occupying the territory and remaining present for about an hour before Fontasian troops returned to Centropolis. There was no Buddie Union resistance and no casualties or injuries on either side. The occupation is considered as the first Fontasian victory in the conflict.

Reserve Troop Offerings to Fontasia (3 November 2022)

On 3 November, Kingdom of Bristolia offered its Armed Forces as reserve troops in the Orkar Crisis; the offer was directly accepted by King Conor I. The Bristolian Armed Forces are now at hand to Fontasian Defense Forces whenever they may be needed in future combat against the Buddie Union within the Orkar Crisis.

    Operation Trebuchet (4 November 2022-5 November 2022)

On 4 November 2022, the Kingdom of Fontasia initiated its major offensive operation in the Orkar Crisis, known as Operation Trebuchet.

    Tarcellian Campaign (4 November 2022)

In the early afternoon of 4 November 2022, Fontasian troops lead by King Conor I himself gathered in Fontum to prepare for the invasion and occupation of the disputed region of Tarcellia and the Buddian-controlled border town of Kigurza. Fontasian troops departed Fontum at around 1:00 PM EST, marching to the ruins of Fort Basepoint were a memorial service was held, commemorating the Assemblian victory in the Hexan Wars, the last major military conflict in the Corrigith Forest that happened in 2017. The troops then marched east to Fort Conor, where they readied their weapons and tested them. At around 1:20 PM Fontasian troops crossed the Tarcellian River into the region of Tarcellia, and five minutes later they entered disputed territory. The Fontasians advanced east and placed the Fontasian flag on Buddian territory, the first time a Fontasian flag has ever been planted in the territory of a foreign micronation.

Fontasian flag placed at Fort Sarbo during the beginning of the Tarcellian Campaign.

The troops turned back west and advanced northwards towards the Font River, capturing Fort Sarbo from the Buddie Union and placing the Fontasian flag onto it. The Fontasians then marched west along the Font River before turning southward along the Tarcellian trails. A necklace was seized as a spoil of war by the Fontasians along the trail. The invasion force then followed a trail further south, entering the border town of Kigurza. Fontasian troops swiftly took the small town, seizing the only defensive structure in the vicinity, the Kigurza Citadel. The Fontasian flag was then draped over the watchtower of the citadel, claiming and occupying the town for Fontasia.

The force re-entered Fontasian territory and stopped at Fort Kartla in the Fontasian town of Kartla. After a short rest the Fontasians crossed with difficulty over the Kartla Isthmus Creek before marching back west towards Fontum. By then the invasion was complete and all objectives had been taken. The Fontasian army made a detour and hiked Mount Corrigith to plant the Fontasian flag at the summit. Finally, after a two-hour military assault the Fontasians returned back to Fontum, victorious.

There was no resistance on the Buddian side and there were no deaths or injuries in the assault.

Later that day, the Fontasian Royal Government officially contacted the Buddie Union's government about the war. The Buddians were extremely startled, but the King of Fontasia affirmed them that the war was going to happen no matter what, and that the lands occupied by the Buddie Union were rightful Fontasian territories. The former leader of the Buddie Union, William remarked "those lands were never yours" to which the Fontasian King replied "they always were, we are the natives afterall."

The Fontasians sent an ultimatum for the terms to end the war to the Buddian government, which they asked for a week-long extension to the due date the terms had to be approved upon. The King of Fontasia later remarked that the Buddians were so-called "savage heathens" due to their liberal beliefs.

Negotiations and End of Conflict (5 November 2022)

In the afternoon of 5 November, the governments of the Kingdom of Fontasia and the Buddie Union discussed terms to end the conflict, and expressed concerns relating to the conflict. After an hour of negotiations, it was agreed that Fontasia would gain East Tarcellia, Bahovia, Buddian Centropolis and West Orkar and that the Cedar Line would be reimplemented. At 3:30 PM EST, the Treaty of Lyndonburg was officially ratified by both parties, officially ending the Orkar Crisis in a Fontasian victory.

    Aftermath (5 November 2022-Present)

Immediately after peace was announced, King Conor I declared 5 November as "National Reunification Day" as several Fontasian regions had been reunified with the greater Fontasian state.
