The Kolniari Sector is a micronational sector in the northern area of Glasgow, Scotland. Kolniari comes from the Sprinske language, roughly translating into English as ‘regional similarities’. It is home to the majority of micronations in Glasgow, defunct or active.

As a geographical sector, the nations are in close proximity to each other, but are also close in culture, history and other aspects. At one point, communism dominated the region, but since the Sprinske Civil War, it has practically vanished. The strongest of these nations is the Sprinske Empire, which is due to the fact that Emperor Aaron I is known for developing the navy and Air Force of every nation he ever had anything to do with.

Etymology

The name ‘Kolniari’ comes from the Sprinske word Kol’njari, meaning ‘regional similarities, but spelling was changed to avoid confusion, (Both words are pronounced identically). Although not the basis for the name, Kólanaris means Glasgow in Kaltarsian, but this does derive from the Sprinske word Kol’njari.

For the demonymic form ‘Kolniaric’, it was chosen by the Prime Minister of the Sprinske Communist Republic and was reportedly chosen due to the fact that the White Star Line used ‘ic’ at the end of their ships’ names, and due to the fact that the Prime Minister was very interested in ocean liners at the time.

Nations

There have been ten Kolniaric Nations, five of which presently exist. The nations are categorised in three groups, first, second and third generation Kolniari nations.

First-Generation

The first generation Kolniari nations are the earliest ones to exist, they started with the Republic of Donkrea in 2018, and the last one was the Imperial Republic of Donkrea in 2020. First-Generation is defined by the Kolniaric Union as the nations created from 2018-2020, which includes the Republic of Donkrea, the Sprinske Communist Republic, the Sprinske Empire, and the Imperial Republic of Donkrea. As of 2023, the revived Republic of Donkrea is the only remaining first generation country.

Second-Generation

The second generation Kolniari nations are defined by the Kolniaric Union as the nations that were created between 2021 and the end of the Second Micronational War on Terror in October 2022. These nations sparked the first period of growth for the sector, but this era was plagued with conflict, most notably the Sprinske Civil War and the Second Micronational War on Terror.

Third-Generation

The third generation Kolniari nations are defined by the Kolniaric Union as the nations that were created between 9 October 2022 and 16 January 2023, this period had multiple wars such as the Seitnamic War, Kolniari Cold War and the First Kolniaric War. The third generation of the Kolniari sector is the one with the most nations, the period ended with the dissolution of the Sprinske Empire, the last remaining first-generation Kolniari nation, until the revival of the Republic of Donkrea.

Fourth-Generation

The Second Kolniaric War began in the morning of 16 January 2023, and with it began the fourth generation. The first of these nations was the Sprinske Republic.

The strongest Kolniaric Nation is the Sprinske Empire, followed by the (Now non-existent) Sprinske Communist Republic. Most of these nations are isolationist, most notable of them is the Sprinske Communist Republic, a nation that was unknown by any other nations with the exception of the other Kolniaric nations, and was only discovered by other nations when the Sprinske Empire published it’s history on MicroWiki, long after the nation itself was gone.

Culture

Kolniari’s artificially created culture is largely based on both Celtic and Eastern European culture, with some Napoleonic influences. Most of the citizens of the Kolniaric nations are of Scottish and Irish heritage, so the Celtic aspect of Kolniaric culture is very natural, but some traces of Eastern European culture are also found due to the sector’s long obsession with the Soviet Union. The Napoleonic aspect comes from the fact that many Kolniaric nations based their system of government on Napoleon Bonaparte. Until very recently, the sector was dominated by communism, but since the dissolution of the People’s Democratic Republic of Sprinske, there are no more communist nations in the area.
