Most Glorious People's Republic of A1

Politics and government of
A1

A1ism was the political philosophy on which the People's reformed States Republic and Most Glorious People's Republic of A1 operated. It was originally created and used by the MGPRA1 until the November Transition.

Definition

A1ism is defiend as a Communist, Direct Democratic, Republic and Benevolent Dictatorship. It was also described by then-Chairman of A1, Rob Gribbon, as "taking the best bits out" of Communism, Democracy and Dictatorship.

As a communist state

A1ism operates essentially as a communist state due to the following factors:

  • No privately owned business is allowed
  • No private ownership of property is allowed
  • Capitalism is generally frowned upon
  • The ultimate aim is for complete equality

Luxembourgism

Prsa1ism (a slight variation used by the PrSR) also applied its opposition to Democratic Centralism. The belief is that centralising the democratic political proccess is a flaw in liberty and freedom for the opposition is then forced to follow the path of the larger group. The main guiding statement comes from Rosa Luxembourg, the main founder of Luxembourgism:

"Freedom only for the supporters of the government, only for the members of a party – however numerous they may be – is no freedom at all. Freedom is always the freedom of the dissenter. Not because of the fanaticism of "justice", but rather because all that is instructive, wholesome, and purifying in political freedom depends on this essential characteristic, and its effects cease to work when 'freedom' becomes a privilege."

As a democracy

The Ancient Greek form of pure democracy, where one citizen is entitled to one vote, is enforced as part of Prsa1ism, through the belief that this is the only true way for a democracy to exist.

Implementation

A1 and the People's reformed States Republic are the only two micronations to have run according to this system.

MGPR of A1

Dictatorship

Although the People's Congress exercised constitutional power, in terms of day-to-day governance and the executive branch, the Chairman essentially held absolute power in all respects. A clause in the A1 Constitution reserved the right for the Chairman to declared a 'State of Emergency', hence giving them absolute authority to do whatever is necessary to protect A1.

Democracy

The democratic implementation of Prsa1ism was shown through the A1 People's Congress, which comprised of every A1 citizen, if there was an odd number, with each member being entitled to one vote each. The People's Congress deliberated only on matters of extreme importance, such as a change to the constitution, and its powers could only be exercised if 50% of more of its members were present.

The Pprit regime

Chairman Pprit delegated almost always to lower members of government, especially to then Deputy Chairman, Mike Cooper.

The Gribbon regime

Upon the election of Rob Gribbon to the Chairmanship, the way in which the Chairman exercised their power changed dramatically. Rather than always delegate to other government members, Gribbon took control of the government right from the beginning, almost always making major policy decisions and sweeping reforms without consultation. This path turned out to be extremely beneficial to A1, and is pointed to by many as being what made A1 into the micronation that it is was. However, once stronger and more committed citizens began to fill government positions, they began to hold more influence over government decisions, especially Deputy Chairman David Massarde. But such influence were still limited, as Gribbon still made many decisions as in the past, for the good of the nation.
