Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Micronations (Indonesian: Ketua Asosiasi Negara Mikro se-Indonesia), is a position designated for the executive leader of Association of Indonesian Micronations (AIM). The position is rotated among full member states for 4-months term alphabetically, with its head of state usually becomes the main executive officer runs the office for their micronation.

The position originates from March 2015 after the last secretary general Tommy N. of Omahkulon, resigned and was replaced by Indokistan based on their reserve power as permanent member of the Security Council, and was designated as "acting chairman". A proposal to recognizes the precedent was accepted by member states in July 2016, with Arkapore taking office as the first official chairman.

History

From 2011 until 2015, the only executive position of the organisation was the Secretary General, held by an individual elected among member states electorates. The custom was broken when Indokistan took office as an "acting chairman" (based on its reserve power as permanent member of the Security Council) to replace Tommy N. that resigned from his office in March 2015. Indokistani chairmanship survived until July 2016.

Shortly before Indokistani dissolution, the acting chairman convened an emergency meeting session in the General Assembly in order to transfer AIM leadership. On the meeting, the assembly decided to recognise Indokistani chairmanship precedent and agreed to shift organisation leadership from an individual to a member state. The assembly also decided to designate chairmanship succession cycle alphabetically, making future leadership election unnecessary. On 1 July 2020, Arkapore took office as the first official chairman, as the country was the first in line, starting the new leadership system of AIM.

The Chairman office runs smoothly from its establishment, as succession cycle was consistently followed. The only issue occurred on the office was on Arkaporean chairmanship that was overlapped for three full terms in 2018-2019 as member states failed to notify the country to handover the leadership. The issue was tolerated by member states as proposal to increase term limit were made, yet it was unchanged on the Charter amended in July 2019.

Ratification of the Charter in July 2019 allowed the restoration of the Secretary General title, significantly relieved the workload of the chairman as some of the duties were delegated to the secretary general. A charter amendment passed in April 2020 reduced the chairman term from 6 months to 4 months. The changes were made mainly to accommodate recent membership surge and to hasten the exhaustion of succession cycle.

Functions

According to AIM Charter amendment ratified in 2019, the Chairman has several functions, with mainly administrative tasks were relieved after restoration of the Secretary General title. Chairman of AIM presides over the General Assembly meeting sessions and to coordinate daily activities of the organisation. The Chairman also appoints Secretary General upon approval from member states on the General Assembly.

Order of seniority of member states

The Chairman title is reserved only to full member states and arranged alphabetically, with observers are excluded from the cycle. The cycle will be renewed when new full member states are admitted into AIM, yet it will only preside over the chairmanship after the previous cycle is concluded. The current cycle is expected to be exhausted in 31 December 2021, and the third chairmanship cycle will commence at 1 January 2022. The order of seniority for chairmanship of AIM as of January 2021 are as follows, with the current chairman written in bold:

  1. Jomblonisme, Democratic Socialist Republic
  2. Arkhasia, United Kingdom
  3. Kingdom of Kingland, Kingdom
