The flag of Ebenthal (Portuguese: Bandeira de Ebenthal) is triband of colors red, green and white, charged left of the center with Ebenthal's lesser coat of arms, an English-type shield containing ten alternating stripes, five green and five yellow, crossed by a black crancelin from top right to bottom left. Above the shield, the heraldic royal crown.

The flag was designed by King Arthur II, inspired by a design gifted to him by the Emperor Oscar I of Karnia-Ruthenia. It was introduced as a contender at 2020 Ebenthali flag referendum on 2 May 2020. The flag was approved and officially adopted as the national flag on 3 May 2020 thorugh a Royal Edict. The design is based the flag Duchy of Anhalt, whereas the escutcheon is inspired on the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha's which owned the Castle of Ebenthal, after which the country is named.

Design and symbolism

The flag of Ebenthal is an horizontal triband standard with a width-height aspect ratio of 3:5. All three bands are equally sized. The colors were purposely chosen to be different from the colors of the previous flags in order to represent the renewal of Ebenthal. Originally, the new selected colors, red, green and white, had no specific meaning and were chosen inspired by the flag of the Duchy of Anhalt. However the King has unnofficially atributed meaning to them: red and white represent the Royal Family, the House of Bruyn, whose colors are those, while the green represents the Brazilian origins of the micronation (whose vexillological and heraldic theme it adopted).

Historic flags

The first official flag was adopted in 14 August 2014, three days after the micronation's foundation. It was designed by King Arthur I largely based on the banner of the Roschfallenian Department of Gros Morne, from which Ebenthal arose. The flag was a triband of blue, white and dark red. The Cross of Saint James was added to embellish the flag, make it different from the Gros Morne's flag, and to represent the micronation's Portuguese heritage. The "Cross-and-Blue Flag", as it was nicknamed, served as the Ebenthal's civil and state flag until 29 December 2019, when it was replace by a similar flag, adding a Portuguese crest around the cross and rustic details at the edges of the blue and dark red stripes. The pendant in Ebenthal's old colors ceased to be used in official capacity on 3 April 2020, when it lost the vote for a new flag design in the 2020 Ebenthali flag referendum, being replaced by a flag of the same size, but being a yellow Nordic cross dividing the tassel into four quadrants; those above are red, those below are white, and in the center of the cross the coat of arms of Ebenthal, in gold, with the Cross of Saint James in blue. Despite this, the referendum was nullified by a quorum below the permitted level, and a new referendum was held on 2 May 2020, winning the current national flag project. On 2 March 2021, the national flag underwent minor changes in the shape of the shield, following changes in the kingdom's coat of arms.

Process of officialization

For a national symbol or any change on it to be implemented, it goes for a process. Every change, from little detail to a complete change in the symbols, must undergo a popular referendum called by the King on which as most projects proposals may be included by any person, including commoners. Then the projects are presented to the Conclave as they vote. For a project to be approved it requires the at least two third of votes in favor. The approved project is sent to the King who may or may not give assent. Given, the project is officialy implemented with immediate effect.
