The Dominion of Esrey Island and surrounding islets, more commonly known as Esrey Island, is a Marquetten colony in Agate harbour, Michigan. It is viewed as one of the most important colonies by the Marquetten Government leading to it sometimes being called "the favorite child"

Etymology

Esrey Island is named for the nearby Esrey park, which itself is of unknown origin.

History

Esrey Island was claimed during the Marquetten colonial scramble of mid 2021. It was originally called the Dominion of Esrey Island, however in 2022 several colonies of Marquette were deemed to small to be claimed as individual colonies and were folded into their neighbours warranting the addition of "and surrounding islets" to the official name.

Politics and government

The Government of Esrey Island is a prototypical Marquetten colony.

Governour-General

The Governour-General is an appointed viceroy that represents Nada I, Grand Duchess of Marquette in Esrey Island, having all the same powers as Nada I in Esrey Island.

Prime minister

The Prime minister holds the second highest authority in Esrey Island. Their main function is to oversee, and serve as a counter balance to the Colonial Parliament. The title of prime minister was formerly called the president, however the act for Colonial organization under Marquette stipulates that this roll must be called the prime minister.

Parliament

The Parliament is the legislature of Esrey Island serving a similar role to marquette's national parliament it is divided into two colleges the appointed Collage of peers and the elected Collage of citizens.

Law and order

The primary law enforcement in Esrey Island is the Gendarmerie, who can also serve as a militia if the Prime minister issues a emergency decree.

Military

Esrey island is permitted to raise a militia in the defense of the territory, with two standing Marquetten Regiment referred to as the Governour-Generals' Guards and presidential guards.
