History

The initial and informal communication between representatives of Baustralia and Vishwamitra began in September 2020 after Rashtradhyaksh Varuna Sriraya of Vishwamitra approached King John of Baustralia for seeking a code from the Royal Institute for Standardization, an institution maintained by the government of Baustralia. Formal communication began in November the same year after the proposal for mutual recognition and establishment of diplomatic relations was made before both governments and was mutually accepted by both states.

Finally on 11 November, the "Treaty of Rajagriha", named after the Vishwamitran capital city of Rajagriha as per Baustralian conventions, was drafted at the initiation of both governments and ratified by the respective authorities. The treaty was signed by the King of Baustralia on behalf of His Royal Government while the Rashtradhyaksh signed the treaty on behalf of the Government of Vishwamitra. The establishment of formal relations ushered into amicable and strong ties between both nations. A few weeks later after the establishment of formal relations, the Rashtradhyaksh was invited to join the Baustralian Army and was later appointed as Honorary Ambassador to India.

Both the monarchs have held various positions in each other's nations. The King of Baustralia has held various military commanding positions in Vishwamitra including serving as Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Defence, and Chief of Naval Staff and also as Honorary Ambassador to Canada. On the other hand, the Rashtradhyaksh serves as a member of the House of Lords and has held advisory positions to the king of Baustralia.

Diplomatic meetings and crisises

Representatives of Baustralia and Vishwamitra have interacted with each other on handful occasions. In a trilateral meeting hosted by Abrams I of Ikonia, the Rashtradhyaksh interacted and held bilateral talks with the King of Baustralia. This was the first such occasion of a virtual meeting between the two monarchs. On yet another occasion, Baustralia was invited to attend the 2023 G16 summit hosted by Vishwamitra, however due to lack of representatives and last minute changes, Baustralia attended as an observer nation at the summit represented by its Secretary of State for Maintainence Manggala Alif Prasetia.

Upon the unfolding of the alledged Indian involved extrajudicial killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar[1] in Canada on September 2023, both states pledged to not let macronational affairs not interfere into the diplomatic and bilateral relations between the states and that such matters be dealt with diplomatic measures.

Crisis

The states encountered a brief diplomatic crisis in September 2023 involving Suryadeva Kapei, a minister in the Vishwamitran government and a proposed nominee for ambassadorship to Baustralia, who had earlier accepted an offer to serve as Governor of the Bank of Baustralia and applied for citizenship despite being proposed for the role of ambassador. The matter was dealt professionally and ended in Kapei withdrawing his application for citizenship in Baustralia. Later, Kapei was dropped from the list of eligible individuals to serve on the position as ambassador.

Award diplomacy

Both nations have engaged in award diplomacy which include exchange of top honours between the leaders of the states. Several Baustralian royals and government members have received high Vishwamitran distinctions for their role in fostering relations between the states, while top Vishwamitran royals have also received high Baustralian distinctions.

Diplomatic exchanges

In order to commemorate the third anniversary of diplomatic relations between both nations, virtual diplomatic missions or embassies were opened at the initiation of both nations. Vishwamitra formally accredited an ambassador with the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Baustralia on 29 October 2023, thereby appointing Ezekiel Ensor, the Minister of State for External Affairs as its inaugural envoy to Baustralia.

The move was reciprocated by Baustralia by accrediting George Davis as their ambassador to Vishwamitra the following day, on 30 October 2023.
