Anastasio López is the current President of the Republic of Rino Island. He previously served as interim president between 2017 and 2018. He was one of the founders of the micronation, along with Vittorio Rino, and has served successively as Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Supreme Court Justice, Provisional President and currently Minister of Internal Affairs and Defense and Foreign Relations under former President Marco Antonio Rino. In this capacity he was interviewed by the Chilean newspaper "El Calbucano".[1]
He was one of the signers of the Rino Island Declaration of Independence. He has written numerous micronational books, highlighting his monumental "History of Rino Island" at 190 pages. In 2021 he was interviewed by the Chilean press about the history of Rino Island, and its national goals.[2] He is also a regular columnist for the Chilean online newspaper "Central Web" where he publishes his views as a member of the government.[3]
Career
He has had a long and outstanding career in the public service of our State.
During the mandate of Vittorio Rino he was appointed as the first director of the National Academy and the Research Institute, positions he held between 2010 and 2022. Under the mandate of Benedetto Samperi, he was Minister of Education, Culture and Research, from March 2014 to January 2015. Later he was Minister of Education, Culture and Sports between March and August 2015, during the first Government of President Tomás Ríos.
Between 2016-2017 he was Judge of the Supreme Court, appointed by President Jair Meza. On May 2, 2017, he led the popular uprising of citizens against the dictatorship of Francisco Gómez, avoiding a simulated war against the Kingdom of Numancia. After a year and a half of interim government, he was appointed by the new president Marco Antonio Rino as Minister of Internal Affairs and Defense and Foreign Relations, positions he holds until 2022.
Summoned by the citizens in the National Consultation of May 2022, he agreed to run for the Presidency of the Republic. During the last elections, he obtained 150 votes, equivalent to 99.3%, in the election with the highest participation in the history of Rino Island. Politically he defines himself as right-wing.
Controversies
After assuming the presidency, in October 2023,, Rino Island broke relations with the micronations of the Brazilian sector, without giving any justification. [4]
