On 7 October 2023, Palestinian militant groups led by Hamas launched "Operation Al-Aqsa Flood," a major offensive against Israel from Gaza.[1] The invasion involved rocket barrages, incursions into Israeli territory, and attacks on and abductions from civilian communities and military bases. Israel cleared the militants from their territory before responding by cutting off supplies going into Gaza, launching missile attacks, and invading Gaza, killing tens of thousands of people and displacing over 85 percent of the population.[2] Both Israel and Hamas have been accused of violations of international law.[3] Israel has been brought to the International Court of Justice by South Africa and was ordered to stop any actions that may lead to a genocide in Gaza.[4] Israel has also been warned by the International Criminal Court after they launched attacks on Rafah in February 2024.[5]
